LIST OF COMICS 501-600

dax #60: the real storyNow that the girl has gone a step further in having a wetting accident in Alix's lap, Dax is trying to find out what Weaver's really up to and prompts Alix to air his grievances in front of himself and Weaver. After Weaver continues to make light of Alix's objections, Dax realizes in the course of mediation that Weaver isn't disclosing his entire intentions, and wonders what it will take for him to come clean.
weaver #62: a little rebellionWith Dax pressing Weaver to admit he has more up his sleeve than annoying Alix, Weaver discloses his intentions: he plans to encourage the little girl in relatively mild mischievous acts so he will earn her trust as confidant, and that way if she tries to do something really outrageous, she'll likely listen to him if he asks her to back down. Furthermore, Weaver believes he's actually in more danger than Alix or anyone else will be.
dax #61: a chance for peaceWith Weaver's plot to allow the girl controlled rebellion out in the open, Alix still insists that Weaver not encourage any mischief at his expense, and he stalks off. Dax and Weaver have a discussion of why Weaver thinks this balance is important and is willing to risk his own safety for her happiness, and Dax wonders how he would handle controlling her behavior since his usual technique of using his strength wouldn't work.
adele #108: a little flowerAdele takes the girl to the ocean to clean her up, but ends up chasing her around as she plays near the cave and pretends to be a flower. Adele asks whether she'd like to be named after a flower, which gets her attention.
ivy #161: a word about meAdele wants to choose a flower name, but the child is more interested in comparing herself to the viney leaves crawling all over the rock, and begins pretending to be a plant, eating sun for breakfast. Adele points out that the plant is called ivy and suggests the name, and though the concept of naming makes her apprehensive, she's pleased by the comparisons and accepts the name, then proceeds to climb all over Adele.
meri lin #114: watching for signsMeri Lin's son has learned to sit up on his own. She reflects on experiencing "normal" milestones with Benjamin, interacting with family over Thanksgiving and Christmas, and wondering about how she'd handle a recurrence of dealing with superpowered babies if it happened to her or her family again.
weaver #63: the easy answerIvy seems proud of her new name, but later when Weaver is berry-picking with her she suddenly starts suggesting new names for herself, apparently not quite understanding the permanence of a name. Weaver gives her some perspective on why she should keep the name Adele gave her, and explores the concept of her being part of their family.
adele #109: i think i miss youAdele adds a few more essential items to the list for Alix to take with him to the city, and then she writes a letter to Webster, which Alix will be mailing for her. Adele is surprised that she becomes so honest and vulnerable during her letter-writing, and realizes she feels like a different person when she communicates with Webster. She likes the feeling and hopes Webster will answer her.
dax #62: promise me backDax gets interrupted from listening to his favorite talk radio program by Weaver and Ivy barging in and trying to take the radio so they can listen to music. Weaver is insistent that he just wants to borrow it for her, while Dax thinks it's important she learns how to share. He finds himself spooked by Ivy's casual confidence when it seems like she's just going to take the radio whether he wants her to or not, but he manages to figure out how to use peaceful strategies to get her to respect him.
ivy #162: what's yoursIvy is playing by herself when she sees Alix returning with bags of gifts. When she tries to take the bags away from him to see what's in them, Alix does a great job talking her out of it and convincing her she should help him carry the items back to the home base for surprises. She's delighted to find that he bought her a "fairy dress" that she likes, though Weaver enjoys making fun of the cloak Alix got himself.
adele #110: any wordsAdele is very pleased with Alix's acquisitions, especially a stack of library books. She decides to make the next day Ivy's "first day of school" and reads a book about school with her over breakfast, and finds that someone has tried to teach her the alphabet and that she knows A and B. Adele ponders how to get Ivy excited about learning so she won't regard her education as a chore.
ivy #163: why we're importantAfter overhearing Adele scolding Alix to wash his own dishes because it isn't HER job, Ivy wonders about jobs and asks Weaver. He outlines what everyone's "job" is, but when she wants her own responsiblities, he tells her she's just a kid and doesn't need a job, so she should concentrate on learning and playing. She is not satisfied and determines that she will show them that she can be important enough to deserve a job.
meri lin #115: in a heartbeatMeri Lin reflects on how Benjamin's milestones are normal but he doesn't seem like much of a smiler. She receives photos of Fred's sister's baby--Dorothy and Dennis's new son Sam--and she's startled to see that the baby's ears are a little bit pointy. Even though Dorothy annoyed her with needy phone calls and petty comparisons, Meri Lin is sure that if this child turns out anything like Amanda, she would be willing to support her.
dax #63: being quietIvy approaches Dax to ask him what hunting is, so he explains about being quiet and stealthy to catch animals. Not understanding why stealth is necessary, Ivy demonstrates that she can catch a squirrel without being quiet at all, and dubs herself a better hunter than Dax before flying away with the water bottles he was going to take back to the base. He's a little miffed, but realizes that if she does indeed lighten his load, he'll have more time for personal betterment.
ivy #164: show me yoursIvy finds Alix next on her quest to learn everyone's job. Alix discloses his underwater breathing ability, which intrigues her, and he agrees to show her how he catches fish. But very similarly to what happened with Dax, Ivy finds a way to catch many more fish without his limitations, and is puzzled when he swims off in disgust.
weaver #64: a lot of nutsWhen Weaver comes upon Ivy in the forest noisily collecting nuts, he discovers she's picked more than they could eat. When he explains why it's important to leave some for the animals and why they have a hard time shelling walnuts, Ivy demonstrates that she can cleanly and easily shell them, and when she expresses that she can do his job too, he suggests they need to talk to Adele.
adele #111: the harmonyAdele finds herself in the middle of Weaver and Alix bickering over Ivy trying to take their "jobs," with Alix feeling upstaged and made redundant and Weaver thinking she just needs to mellow a little. Adele decides to ask Ivy to finish the jobs she started, and when she predictably gets bored shelling nuts, Adele unintentionally hurts Ivy's feelings by implying she didn't do a good job if she didn't finish. She acknowledges that she'll need to apologize to Ivy after she's had some time to think.
ivy #165: that person nowIvy ponders feeling useless and concludes that she must have made others feel useless by doing their jobs for them. Then Adele comes into the forest to apologize to her, and while she's willing to grant forgiveness, her first thought is on getting a job that's hers alone.
adele #112: check for smilesAdele and Ivy have a conversation about the importance of a job and why having one makes Ivy feel good about herself. Adele tells her she'd really like her to consider learning to read part of her job, and she thinks about her doubts regarding raising Ivy.
ivy #166: rudeIvy finds that Dax is using the radio again so she decides she'll come back later for music, and goes off on her own to amuse herself. She thinks about how there used to be buildings and now there's just forests, and how she likes it better now. She finds a bird's nest and doesn't know what it is, and then discovers young male hikers coming through the woods. She decides to get their attention.
weaver #65: there was boysIvy returns from somewhere and tells the group she wants Weaver to come look at the strange item she found to help her identify it. She also casually mentions that she saw boys, and Adele points out that they were hikers. Alix is uneasy, and they discuss how vulnerable they are to wanderers. Weaver agrees to go check out the bird's nest with Ivy.
ivy #167: birds and beesWeaver follows Ivy into the forest to see her bird's nest but she can't find it again and becomes frustrated. Weaver explains that he needs a rest and she has trouble understanding why long flights tire him out until she tries flapping her arms for a while. Then she builds a nest out of sand to show Weaver what it looked like, and he tries to teach her some letters to distract her from asking questions about why eggs lead to baby birds.
adele #113: groomingA wordless comic depicts Adele brushing Ivy's hair, which turns into a cute play session wherein they play with each other's hair and clip barrettes into it.
meri lin #116: all my what-ifsMeri Lin notices a slight change in Benjamin's napping behavior, and after he wakes up, she sees evidence that he might have crawled when she wasn't looking. She's amazed that normal baby developments could inspire such strange questions about the future now that her experiences with Amanda have made babies' learning new skills potentially terrifying.
ivy #168: watching meAdele wants to read Ivy a bedtime story and she wants Adele to do so from the end of the bed. She zones out while thinking about who else used to read to her and wonders what happened to them. She also ponders what might happen when her current company has had enough of her. She ends the episode cuddling with Adele.
adele #114: up closeBased on some observations about Ivy's reading, Adele concludes that Ivy is unable to read text that's too close to her face. Adele is unsure how to treat farsightedness.
weaver #66: making it funAdele asks Weaver to fill in as a reading teacher for Ivy while she goes on one of her missions so Ivy won't backslide, and they disagree on how to execute those lessons. Weaver doesn't like Adele's techniques and decrees that he'll make his reading lessons more fun for her--and teach Adele that she doesn't always know best.
ivy #169: reading timeIvy is perplexed when Weaver tries to teach her reading in a different way than she's used to, and even though she likes that Weaver is engaging her with spelling funny words, she just wants reading time to be reading time, and ends up frustrating him by asking him to just read her a story.
ivy #115: bewitchedAdele checks her post office box alone at night and finds a letter from Webster waiting for her. He says very romantic things to her which make her feel desired in a way she appreciates, and she speculates about the future of their relationship.
weaver #67: why is yWeaver teaches Ivy to write her name, but she is disappointed that her name only has three letters despite being as many syllables as Weaver's. She bursts out with all the things she doesn't understand about letters and Weaver "welcomes" her to the English language.
ivy #170: the next oneWeaver begins giving Ivy increasingly complicated secret messages hidden in plastic toy containers, and she has to learn to read each message to be able to find the next one. She's a little angry when she gets stumped by a word, but resolves to improve so she can enjoy finding the next hidden message.
dax #64: silent eIvy enlists help from Dax in figuring out a mystery word in the clue Weaver gave her, and is dismayed when she finds out sometimes letters don't make any noise at all. Dax agrees to help Ivy figure out the meaning of the clue, and is quite curious himself even though this is supposed to be Ivy's reading exercise.
ivy #171: just one wordDax gives useful prompts to help Ivy figure out where a certain tree might be, and when she finds Weaver's next planted clue, she finds herself again stumped by the even more complicated message inside. Ivy considers giving up entirely, but Dax's encouragement convinces her that maybe she'll just read at least one more word.
dax #65: my placeDax helps Ivy puzzle out a more complicated clue, and even though he lends her valuable insight, he's stumped by Weaver's message as well. He wonders what Ivy will think of him if he becomes unable to function with as much confidence and competence as the authorities in Ivy's life.
weaver #68: game overWeaver is building a flower out of sand so he can hide a clue ball for Ivy's reading game, and he attracts Alix's curiosity, but then they're interrupted by Dax and Ivy arriving, having figured out the clue before Weaver could finish planting it. Weaver gets upset, thinking Dax helped Ivy cheat, and he "quits" the game as a way of teaching them both a lesson. Alix volunteers to go read with Ivy so Dax and Weaver can have a discussion.
dax #66: words you can't believeDax and Weaver discuss why Weaver feels Dax stepped over the line helping Ivy too much, but Dax is upset that Weaver thinks he can't be trusted. They resolve their differences and try to figure out how to best use games for helping Ivy learn.
ivy #172: a family, i guessAlix, having taken Ivy back to the cave so Weaver and Dax can talk privately, is looking for a book to read with her when Ivy starts questioning whether anyone likes her. Worried that she always makes people fight, she asks if the group likes her and if Alix personally likes her. He tries to explain family in a simplified way, suggesting that she's part of their family group and they'll always like her, but she doesn't have much of a concept of family. Alix searches for books that will teach her what those relationships are about.
weaver #69: names for usWeaver and Dax return to the cave and find Alix reading to Ivy. Weaver thinks it's weird, and after they all ascertain that everything's more or less okay now after the blow-up, Ivy reveals that they're looking for families in books and she can't find any like their "family." While trying to figure out what names each of the group members should use, Ivy asks Weaver if he's a daddy, and he feels a weird connection with that word.
adele #116: because i canAdele wanders homeward after mailing her letter to Webster. It's the wee hours and she ponders as she walks through the city, thinking about how her companions need her and she's well placed to carry their burdens, and how much she needs a fantasy like Webster to sustain her. She concludes that she loves being the group's guide the way she does, but that having an escape will be nice too.
ivy #173: real dogsIvy sees Adele returning from her journey and greets her in the forest pretending to be a dog. With a rope tail and a rope tied around her neck, she begs to be taken for a walk, and when Adele humors her, she begins asking questions about whether dogs are real and whether she can have one.
weaver #70: my faultWeaver sees Ivy sitting on the beach by herself and decides to go talk to her to cheer her up. Turns out she's not sad; she's just involved in examining a bug while she levitates it in front of her. Weaver gets curious about the mechanics of her ability and asks her some questions that have her fumbling for a word to describe her ability. Weaver offers to get Adele to help her, and worries that he's upset her while trying to comfort her.
ivy #174: trouble with wordsIvy thinks about not having a word for her ability or the force that makes her powers possible, running through other parts of her and experiences she can describe with words she does already have. Adele arrives (having been prompted to do so by Weaver), and she gets to the heart of Ivy's frustration. She gives her a word for her ability--though it's too long for Ivy to remember--and agrees that it's a problem for her to have no name for the force that allows her to move things without touching them.
adele #117: no such thing for usTo help Ivy find a word for her ability, Adele explains that she also had to do the same thing. Comparing her ability to see without eyes to Ivy's ability to move without hands, she encourages her to describe her experience and find a word that's similar enough. Adele suggests "energy," and after Adele explains what energy is, Ivy happily accepts it as appropriate.
ivy #175: girls onlyIvy and Adele are taking a bath together when questions about gender occur to Ivy. She wants an explanation for how they know they're girls and why bathtime together excludes boys. She also wants to know what physical similarities she can expect to have with grown women since she thinks she looks the most like Alix even though she knows he's not a girl. Adele is patient with Ivy's questions, but she remains confused and wants to ask Weaver for more straightforward answers.
weaver #71: not simpleIvy comes to Weaver to ask for clarification about what makes girls girls and what makes boys boys. He launches into a nature-based explanation, casting women as the sex that carries babies and men as the sex that impregnates. Alix overhears and surprises everyone by insisting that sex and gender is not about body parts, based partly on what he knows from a roommate he had at his last job. Weaver is confused and cowed, but privately holds that nature's primary male/female dichotomy is not useless.
ivy #176: pretending they knowAlix attempts a cursory crash course for Ivy on what nudity, intimacy, and sex are for in the context of adulthood, but she remains baffled. Weaver breaks in criticizing Alix's approach when Alix suggests Ivy will understand more when she grows up and has a boyfriend, and she leaves the conversation convinced that Weaver and Alix don't know the answer to female and male identity either.
weaver #72: our own little circusAlix and Weaver simmer down in their argument, agreeing that they should let Ivy herself decide what being a girl is about. They digress into discussing Alix's past job, and he reveals he used to work at a circus, where he felt simultaneously objectified and included. Weaver is surprised that Alix let him in on this topic, and appreciates knowing about his past.
dax #67: sun and moonWeaver consults Dax on Ivy's recent questions about gender. Dax reveals that despite how Alix described working with someone who identified as female despite being assigned male at birth, he really sees men and women as biological categories, like opposites--sun and moon, day and night. But when Weaver asks him the hard questions he's been thinking about since Alix brought them up, he has to admit he too would respect someone's preferences if asked, and begins wondering if Nature is really as divided as he'd initially suggested.
ivy #177: a noiseIvy's spending some time alone and she ends up in the woods with a mysterious presence. When she hears something moving but can't see anything, she remotely examines the source of the noise with her energy, and learns that it is something humanoid with wings. But when she tries to stop it from flying away, the noise the creature makes is loud and startling, leaving Ivy stunned as it escapes.
adele #118: good little girlAdele gets a notion that Ivy needs her help, so she tracks her down and realizes she's been startled and upset by her encounter with an invisible forest creature that screamed. Adele concludes that it must have been Neptune and that they scared each other, and offers to help Ivy find her to make amends. Adele is personally relieved to see that Ivy apparently feels remorse.
ivy #178: something about herIvy clarifies some perspectives about the invisible woman in the forest, and asks Adele why she couldn't talk if she was really a person. Adele attempts to explain that not everyone that's a person can talk, and that people have different abilities for better or for worse. Ivy still doesn't grasp the idea and concludes maybe she would be able to teach such a person to talk.
adele #119: something gentleAdele and Ivy track their invisible friend and Ivy gets upset when Adele reveals that Neptune can talk enough to have said her name. She doesn't understand why Adele is trying to tell her they can't have a conversation, and she gets upset about it. Adele calms her down and encourages her to try something gentle: singing. This works until Ivy gets overenthusiastic and scares Neptune away, so Adele resigns herself to reassuring Ivy for the remainder of the evening.
ivy #179: not hateIvy is worried that Neptune hates her, and even though Adele tries to convince her otherwise, Ivy thinks back to other times she's made people "hate" her and believes she's done it again. Adele explains that she and the others have also accidentally startled Neptune and she still learned to trust them enough to talk to them and eat their food, and Ivy slowly begins to believe Adele. They walk back to the cave with Ivy newly excited about eventually winning the invisible woman over.
meri lin #117: this simpleMeri Lin can now confirm that Benjamin is crawling. As she revisits baby-proofing her home and reflects on how much more difficult it was to keep Amanda out of dangerous things, she can't help but feel Benjamin's predictable, by-the-book growth is lulling her into a false sense of security. She's sure he has a shocking surprise up his sleeve still to come.
weaver #73: missedAdele and Ivy return to Dax and Weaver, with Ivy very excited about having met Neptune. She pesters Adele to draw a picture of her since she hasn't seen her lift her invisibility yet, and bothers Weaver into helping her find Adele's drawing implements. Weaver ponders the concept of "missing" someone and wonders how his experience of missing others compares to potential losses in his life before he came to this world.
adele #120: visualizeAdele completes the drawing of Neptune that Ivy asked for, and she receives rave reviews from all the others. Alix is curious how Adele learned to draw, and when she says she reproduces what she visualizes, he suggests this might be an offshoot of her seer capabilities. This upsets her enough to snap at him, insisting that all of her talents don't always have to go back to that. She wonders if anything she does can truly be viewed by others as independent from her more unusual abilities.
ivy #180: the itchesIvy is up reading with a flashlight and Adele eases her back into bed, encouraging her to imagine stories until she falls asleep. Instead, she feels itchy and begins wondering if she's supposed to move on to another place. She doesn't fully understand her restlessness, but she knows she feels it, and after a quick venture out of the cave, she returns to bed, deciding she'll probably leave the next time she feels itchy.
dax #68: sharing the victoryDax details the rules of the group's new scavenger hunt/reading game, and discusses how he feels about when Ivy wins. He prefers that she wins, but he particularly likes when he wins alongside her.
ivy #181: no loud soundsAdele takes Ivy into the forest because it's a good day to meet Neptune, but Adele says whether the meeting is successful will depend on whether Ivy can control her tendency to be loud. Ivy manages to barely contain some excited impulses and successfully has a small interaction with Neptune, trading meows and passing a leaf back and forth. Ivy is excited at the idea of being friends with her.
adele #121: the right thing to sayAdele thinks Neptune isn't ready to trust Ivy yet and tries to avoid startling her, and she ends up tying the friendship bracelet on Neptune's wrist. Ivy is delighted when Neptune appears to look at the bracelet on her arm, but then she gets startled by her red eyes and scares her away. Adele wishes she knew the right thing to say when she knows something bad is coming.
ivy #182: colors underneathAfter Ivy had a negative reaction to Neptune's red eyes, Adele tries to explain how pigment affects perception of color. Ivy, relieved that the red eyes does not mean Neptune had bloody eyes, wonders more about the "real" colors of things she can't see.
weaver #74: a spongeWeaver comes upon Adele and Ivy searching for bunnies in kids' books, and he volunteers that he saw a bunny in one of his mini-encyclopedias once. He finds the book quickly and shows it to Ivy and Adele, and Adele praises Weaver's memory and asks whether he can remember everything he reads. He describes his memory as being like a sponge, and he gets to keep most of what he soaks up, but he isn't perfect.
meri lin #118: this easyMeri Lin gets restless and takes Benjamin out to the park, reminiscing about when she last did this with Amanda and had a tiny disaster. Instead, she finds that another parent with a child is friendly to her, and she has to keep reminding herself that she has nothing to hide. She makes friends with the other parent and they realize their sons were born within two days of each other.
ivy #183: it's timeIvy wakes up feeling "itchy" again and decides it's time for her to move on to someplace else. She briefly looks around for Weaver to either say goodbye or see if he wants to come with her, but she doesn't find him. She heads off to places unknown.
adele #122: her choiceThe gang is having breakfast by a low fire, mixing some tart berries Weaver gathered into a breakfast mix, but then they notice Ivy is missing and Adele confirms that she's "gone." But she can't say where or why exactly, and she feels strongly that chasing her down would be counterproductive. Adele is convinced she'll come back, but is unsure of whether that's her intuition or her heart talking.
ivy #184: a different meIvy's flight into the night has taken her on a journey of thought as well. She wonders if she gets to bring her name with her into the next part of her life, and thinks about how she'll be expected to act if she encounters other people who don't understand her. She flies into a telephone wire and hurts her chest, and she goes to the ground to nurse her wounds.
dax #69: i'll askIvy's unexpected disappearance hits Dax harder than he expected, and he consults Adele about what she knows on the subject. From there, they digress into Dax's desire to know more about Adele's opinion of her own future-seeing experience, but Adele objects to the way he appears to be asking for permission to question her without repercussions. He realizes she needs to be the one to lead the way in this conversation so it can be on her terms, or else it's not really about her at all.
ivy #185: when they're not togetherIvy continues her wandering and finds herself in a city at night. Her chest still hurts so she goes into an open convenience store to look at it under the lights. Her chest is bruised but not bleeding, but the sight of it still freaks her out a little and her whimpering draws the attention of the store's employee. He lets her sit down in a chair while he tries to call a supervisor to advise him on how to help her.
adele #123: that unsureDax and Adele continue to talk about what Dax wants to know about Adele's future sight. Dax reveals how horrifying it can sometimes be to be unsure, and while Adele acknowledges that she'll never feel like that, she says it can be scary to be responsible for interpreting what others can't see.
ivy #186: a blue thingThe convenience store clerk teaches Ivy to operate the water fountain and has her doodle on paper with a pen while she waits for police. Ivy feels lonely as she ends up drawing a picture of Weaver. A police officer arrives and seems disappointed in the clerk for not finding any information about her, and he begins to ask her basic questions. Ivy wants to tell the policeman that she wants food and attention for her injury.
weaver #75: a mirror thereWeaver ruminates about Ivy going missing, fixating on how he can't believe she left her flying partner and they might not be able to have their shared flights anymore. He wonders if he was mistaken to believe it mattered to her as much as it mattered to him. In meditation, Weaver concludes that he didn't imagine her reaction and that she won't willingly give up what they had together, and he takes off on a flight in her honor.
ivy #187: my three thingsThe policeman at the convenience store listens as Ivy rattles off three things she needs help with: finding the beach again, getting some breakfast, and fixing whatever's wrong with her chest. The policeman takes interest in her bruises and asks how she got hurt, and Ivy feels compelled to hide the real story because she knows she can't talk about flying. The man misinterprets her discomfort as an attempt to cover up being abused by caregivers, and he begins to help her get some food. Ivy hopes he'll take her back to the beach.
meri lin #119: this honestMuch to Meri Lin's surprise, the friend she made in the park wants to get together in the future, so she schedules a playdate for their sons and has MJ over for coffee. They realize they have lots in common beyond being parents, and MJ invites Meri Lin to meet with another woman who has a mixed-race child. Then they discuss MJ's gender--she prefers not to be seen as a woman--and while discussing the gendering of children's toys, Meri Lin considers whether she'll ever be able to discuss the less typical experiences she had with losing a child. Since MJ seems open to honesty and unusual subjects, Meri Lin thinks she will be someone she can trust, but she's not ready to talk about it yet.
ivy #188: braveThe policeman decides to take Ivy to the hospital after ascertaining that she is not on any recent missing children reports. But Ivy balks at having to go in a car, even though the man asks her to be brave for him. She escapes the policeman instead.
dax #70: too quietDax watches his companions absorbed in solitary, quiet activities that in some way emphasize Ivy's absence. He surprises everyone by bursting out asking to talk about Ivy, suggesting that they discuss how to make sure she won't want to leave again if she does come back.
ivy #189: off eastwaysIvy naps on a bus stop bench and ends up talking to a woman who gives her a donut and tells her which way the ocean is. Ivy is happy to have a second problem solved, but keeps being overwhelmed with sadness she doesn't understand.
adele #124: should she returnAdele has a conference with the group and they all share thoughts on what they're going to do if Ivy returns to make her feel more connected to staying so she won't strike out on her own again. Adele will adjust her reading lessons; Weaver will make a daily flying date; Alix will enlist her help catching fish; and Dax just isn't sure yet. But after all the decisions have been made, Adele admits that she still has no idea if Ivy is returning.
ivy #190: still not a beachIvy continues flying eastwards and observes that she has no idea if she's going the right way. Her chest still hurts so she elects to take a dip in a lake she's flying over to cool it off a little. She finds the drawing she did of Weaver in her pants pocket and wishes she had paper to draw her other companions.
weaver #76: this sublimeWeaver notices Adele is zoning out but hesitates to ask her what she's thinking about. Then when she leaves suddenly saying she has to research information on Ivy, he panics, worrying that she's about to come back with bad news. But when she returns saying Ivy is on her way to the beach but is a little lost, Weaver wastes no time at all following Adele's instructions to go scout the area to the west.
ivy #191: a faraway voiceIvy now has grime all over herself from swimming in a mucky lake, and she puts her clothes back on and longs for the ocean. She tries flying very fast, hoping that will get her closer even though she doesn't know if she's flying the right way. And then she thinks she hears a voice so she stops flying, and when she turns around, it's Weaver!
weaver #77: hurt togetherWeaver had to push himself hard and fast to get within shouting range of Ivy, and now that he's reached her, he's paying the consequences. He's beyond worn out and has strained himself terribly, but he manages to stay conscious while resting on the ground with Ivy and exchanging information about each other's pain. He sees that Ivy's chest is bruised but he can't do anything but lie there trying not to worry her, acknowledging that it would have hurt worse if he hadn't found her.
ivy #192: fix itselfIvy offers to get Weaver some water. He expresses concern that she doesn't have anything to carry it in, but she assures him she can do it with her energy, and does so. She brings back a bubble of water to offer him, and as he refreshes himself, they discuss her bruised chest and the fact that it will just heal itself without her having to do anything but wait. She's fascinated with the idea of doing something she doesn't mean to do without knowing how.
dax #71: special filterAdele has given instructions to the group to be happy but not overenthusiastic when Ivy comes back, so she won't run away again next time she wants attention. Dax has mixed feelings about this. When Ivy arrives carrying Weaver, he worries something has happened. After Ivy hugs everyone, he privately asks Weaver if he's okay, glad he doesn't have to mask his feelings in this case, but Ivy interrupts to announce that they have bruises and pains. Dax is anxious.
adele #125: protect what's insideIvy asks Adele to look at her injured chest. Adele realizes she's looking for reassurance even though Weaver has already said it will heal, so she has her lie down for an examination and explains that her ribs are in good condition and protected her. Ivy seems satisfied with this assessment, but Adele wonders what she would have done if Ivy had needed medical assistance. All she can do is try to prevent the need for it.
ivy #193: looking for thisIvy reflects on being happy to be home and have all its comforts again. Then she realizes Adele may have inadvertently destroyed her drawing of Weaver since it was in her pants pocket when she took a bath. But Adele found the paper in her pocket and saved it for her. She can't wait to show it to Weaver.
weaver #78: asking herWeaver and Ivy are still worn out from their ordeals, but they take a flight together to reestablish connection. Weaver wants to ask Ivy not to leave again even though Adele has cautioned him against making a big deal of her departure. Then Ivy hands him the drawing she did of him and says she missed him, at which point he tells her he was sad without her and she shouldn't leave again. She assures him that she'll always come back, but he wants her to not leave at all.
ivy #194: not for youIvy tells her traveling story to Alix and Dax as they play in the sand. Alix reveals that he'd like her to help him with fishing once winter comes, and she wonders why he needs help. When he explains that she won't have to be submerged in cold water to fish, she ponders how everyone needs her special abilities to do things they can't, and then is stumped by why Adele only seems to want her to read. She wonders what good her reading does Adele and heads off to ask.
meri lin #120: time awayMeri Lin has now met MJ's friend Priya and they've formed a little parent group. This montage issue shows them supervising playdates with their sons and going out together. Meri Lin likes having a group and wonders if Fred minds watching Benjamin when they go out. Does Fred want to meet dads? She doesn't know.
adele #126: the ones who wrote them downIvy comes to Adele for reading and asks how her reading helps Adele with anything. Adele explains how ideas can be conveyed if you write them down, and then people you can never meet can still tell you what they felt and thought. This conversation leads to Adele discussing what death is, and for some reason Ivy already knows what it means. Adele wonders what sorts of stories Ivy will tell when she can write.
ivy #195: slipperyIvy is helping Alix catch fish, but objects to helping him clean the fish she catches. She feels that should be his job, and becomes frustrated when he loses the fish she gives him. They get the fish back and Ivy's curious about why it flops around, but isn't disturbed that it's trying to escape becoming dinner. She's more focused on not having to worry about the parts other people can easily take care of for her.
weaver #79: how we honorAlix tells Weaver, Adele, and Dax that he's worried Ivy is callous about death since she didn't seem to care that fish have to die for dinner. While Alix plays up the danger and Adele accuses him of fearmongering, Weaver suggests she seems nonchalant because she doesn't understand what death is even though she says she does. Weaver concludes that he and Dax might need to show her why they honor animals they eat.
dax #72: where it came fromDax awaits Ivy and Weaver's return, holding a rabbit he's killed. As Weaver helps prepare it, Ivy watches, and they give her some perspective on why they return part of the animal to the Earth. Dax believes Ivy is getting an inkling that she is alive the same way the rabbit used to be.
ivy #196: doing it rightIvy decides she wants to say something to the dead rabbit they'll be eating. She thanks it, but recognizes that it didn't exactly give permission for them to eat it, and wonders about the gray morals involved in that. While discussing it briefly with Weaver, he tells her she's the appropriate amount of sad about this complicated issue.
adele #127: spaces in betweenAdele makes more necessary purchases in the city and then reads a letter from Webster. He tells her about how a date he had wasn't enjoyable because the woman wasn't her, and that he needs to know more about her. He casually uses language that reminds her he thinks she's human, and asks for a photo of her that he can keep. She thinks about it.
ivy #197: just a flashIvy hears that Adele has returned and brings a mysterious object to her to find out what it is. She loses interest when Adele claims it's animal poop. Then she notices Adele has an interesting object, which turns out to be a camera. Adele demonstrates how it works by taking Ivy's photograph, and though the flash bothers her at first, she's impressed by how it spits out a Polaroid picture that develops before her eyes. She wants more pictures.
adele #128: faraway shotAdele asks Ivy to keep the camera and their photos a secret because she doesn't want Weaver, Alix, or Dax to know she's writing to Webster. Ivy understands and manages to console Adele for feeling conflicted about it, and under Adele's instructions, Ivy's able to help Adele take a photo of the two of them from very far away--a safe distance for Adele to feel she's not sacrificing her secrecy.
ivy #198: in our heartsIvy wants to know more about Webster but Adele doesn't want to share. Though she does tell Ivy she likes talking to this man because they feel the same about things in their hearts, Ivy is thoroughly confused by what that could mean. She's disappointed that Adele won't disclose.
dax #73: a different secretIvy asks for Dax's help spelling a word, and then later she turns up with "secret" notes for the others, telling Dax that he "smells the best." Alix brings it up at dinner, oblivious to Ivy's intended secrets, and it's revealed to the group that Ivy's given "secret" notes to everyone except Adele because they already have a secret and she wanted to have one with everyone else. Alix seems suspicious of Adele for having a secret, and Dax reflects on why he's curious but doesn't feel entitled to hear her secret.
adele #129: honest peopleAlix kicks up dust about Adele having a secret and implies that he'll get Ivy to tell him what it is. Adele and Dax agree that he's being nasty and he isn't entitled to know her secrets in any way. She decrees that her so-called secret has nothing to do with him and that she can't trust him with her confidence if he petulantly demands access to what she considers personal information. He protests that her secrets sometimes put him in uncomfortable positions he can't fight and sullenly apologizes. Adele is not sure she accepts this.
ivy #199: cry on meAfter a tense dinner where Alix was ticked at Adele for keeping secrets, Adele takes Ivy to bed and Ivy tries, in her innocent way, to reassure Adele that she can keep secrets if she wants and Ivy would have never told. Adele gets emotional at this, puzzling Ivy, and states that Ivy has a good heart. They promise to always be there to laugh or cry on each other when they need someone.
