LIST OF COMICS 901-present

dax #127: more possibilitiesDax has a short discussion with Ivy about jobs humans do, but Ivy really wants to talk to Alix about whether he's liked the ones he's had. Alix claims to have disliked working, but when Adele chimes in and says Ivy will have missions she'll enjoy in the future--starting with building the house--she's excited while Dax is apprehensive. What if he doesn't want things to change?
ivy #281: good builderIvy finally starts working with Alix to build a shed and doesn't hate doing it, and looks forward to what Adele said about her future happening--that building a house someday will lead to an opening in her life. Alix compliments Ivy's building abilities and discusses jobs and fulfillment with her.
weaver #136: place of fearWeaver does a minimal roofing task to help Ivy on the shed building just so he can say he helped. When he jokes about pooping inside it because humans poop inside, the two chat about what Ivy remembers about the human world, and he's surprised to hear that Ivy remembers being afraid. He wonders who she'd be now if she'd continued growing up in a scary place.
dax #128: how it endsNeptune wanders into the group's evening meal and recites a story she heard on the radio while Dax was gardening. She seems to want him to provide the ending, as the radio's batteries ran out in the middle of a sentence. Dax tries to make up a story ending for her and she seems dissatisfied and leaves. The group discusses Neptune's mysteries.
adele #223: too much of usAdele sneaks out at night to talk to Webster in a hotel. This time she keeps running into everyday details from her life setting Webster off on questioning tangents, and feeling lost over the details of Webster's life. She wants to switch to something more timeless so they can enjoy their talk without worry, and pushes Webster to tell her a story he liked as a child instead. Keeping themselves out of their stories is the only way they seem to be able to safely connect now.
dax #129: beyond my first thoughtAn early-morning chat between Dax and Adele lets Dax be honest about how he's feeling regarding Adele's plans to build a house and bring new unknown people around. He's feeling a little bulldozed by her plans and wary of her attitude toward moving forward no matter what he wants. She assures him that she does take his feelings into account and can assure him the future structures and housemates in their lives will be something he'll treasure. But his input will be valued as they move forward.
ivy #282: everything about youIvy and Weaver, while building a cake-looking sandcastle, chat about why Ivy never told Weaver she saw Neptune's nest. He reflects on how watching kids grow up and have experiences you don't get to share as their caretaker is bittersweet, and then realizes he's felt or expressed something like this before. Ivy isn't able to follow why this is significant for him but is willing to distract him at his request, despite that she is frustrated that he thinks she wouldn't understand.
dax #130: another strengthTab scratches herself by accident and gets frustrated that she has to deal with these accidents--something no one else has to deal with. Why can't she have something different about her in a cool way like Ivy does? Dax tries to help Tab understand that her own uniqueness is important and wonderful, but she's not in the mood to hear it and just expresses jealousy and anger toward Ivy. Dax ruminates on how dangerous she might be.
ivy #283: the person who always winsDax brings Tab over to Ivy for her kid-sitting shift, but Tab seems like she's in a bad mood. Dax discloses that Tab hurt herself with her claws and then turned sour about how her ways of being special aren't as cool as Ivy's. Ivy treats Dax to a stoic acceptance of her role as the person who will win every fight and acknowledges that some people are always going to hate that. Privately, Ivy is a little heartbroken at another confirmation that Tab resents her, but figures she ought to get used to it.
weaver #137: always madDax brings a sleeping Thursday to Weaver for his shift and tells Weaver he might want to check in with Ivy about how she's feeling now that Tab has expressed some anger and jealousy about her. Weaver doesn't think he has any special insight, but when Thursday wakes up, it occurs to Weaver to ask Thursday if Tab ever talks angrily about Ivy. When Thursday points out that Tab tends to be mad about everything, Weaver begins to develop a different perspective on what might be the norm for Tab.
dax #131: remnantAfter his hunt, Dax comes back to camp and meets up with Ivy, Thursday, and Weaver. When he asks where Tab is, he learns Ivy was watching her without watching her as they spent some time apart. Tab's hair is full of sticks and sap, which Ivy gets to cleaning up as Dax prepares dinner. They have a discussion about what their horns are for and Tab seems to really like the idea that hers might enable her to headbutt effectively one day. Dax appreciates the reminder of wildness despite that Weaver thinks his own and Dax's horns are vestigial.
adele #224: excavationAdele and Alix talk about the eventual house-building and Alix is frustrated that Adele has the big picture but not the details he wants, while Adele is frustrated that Alix wants details she doesn't have yet even though they can't act on them. She explains that the way she makes decisions based on the way her abilities work is different from the way he makes decisions "forward" with logic, while her way of understanding what to do is more like excavating. Adele privately acknowledges that she also doesn't want to get excited about things she'll be forced to be patient for, so she prefers not to know about them until it's relevant.
ivy #284: to appreciate youWeaver follows up on Dax's request to talk to Ivy about how she's feeling regarding Tab treating her with resentment. Ivy is dismissive of Weaver's desire to talk to her and thinks the issue can't be solved by talking, and doesn't want anyone to make a big deal out of it. But by the end of the conversation, she realizes maybe Weaver does have something worthwhile to say about helping Tab appreciate her instead as she grows up.
weaver #138: parallel strugglesWeaver and Ivy talk more while resting in the trees. Weaver asks Ivy if she thinks Tab's jealousy is inspired by Ivy having to be the one to control her, but Ivy thinks it's deeper than that and is embarrassed when Weaver suggests it might be hard for Tab to have to see Ivy able to do things she can never do. Weaver tries to compare Ivy to Adele assuming she must wish she could do some of the things Adele can, but Ivy surprises him by saying she wouldn't actually like that because it would be really hard. Exploring how being herself is hard for Ivy allows some headway to be made in their conversation, and Weaver wonders what the adults' role should be in making sure Tab doesn't fixate on being a have-not while not making Ivy feel like she deserves resentment.
adele #225: protecting herAdele is guiding Thursday and Tab in reading exercises and Thursday has begun to be able to sound out words. Tab, on the other hand, is shying away from participating and can't even recognize letters. While trying to coax Tab into trying, Thursday jumps onto the book and asks Adele to just read it to them, and points out that Tab can't read anyway. Adele is surprised that Thursday seems to be protecting Tab from having to read and neither of them are treating this statement he made as anything but a fact. Tab is not upset to be accused of not being able to read. Adele agrees to read to them, but wonders whether the two children need separate reading lessons.
dax #132: everyone starts somewhereAdele asks Dax to read with Thursday while she concentrates on Tab. He presents reading opportunities to Thursday next time it's his turn to watch him, but Thursday resists because e is worried about Tab's experience. He tells Dax Tab essentially can't even see print and won't be able to read even with more focus. He is too worried about Tab to read with Dax, so he reads to him instead, but decides he will talk to Adele to make sure she's not making a mistake.
ivy #285: philosophical questionIvy's having an immature day and wants Adele to give her ideas to entertain herself and Tab. Adele is busy and resists but Ivy keeps bugging her. Ivy rejects the idea of hide and seek and then essentially asks Adele to explain their purpose in doing the same aimless things every day. Adele is not able to entertain Ivy's philosophical questions right then either and sends them away with another game suggestion and a promise to talk to Ivy later about the big picture.
adele #226: directionlessAdele talks to Ivy while she's making string bracelets and discusses her recent directionless feelings. Adele tells her her main job right now is to keep reading and learning so she'll be ready when they start building a house and a life with humans, and she reassures Ivy that the humans they will choose to bring into their world will appreciate what's unusual about their group. She also brings up her future hope to tutor a human who has similar abilities to hers.
weaver #139: what's around usWeaver, recently cleared to watch Tab as well as Thursday, is tired of their bickering until he overhears Thursday insisting that he has six siblings that he remembers. Upon investigating, Weaver discovers Thursday actually just made an assumption based on seeing his name among six others on the calendar and assumed they were other people with similar names. Weaver tells the children the history of everyone's name and they argue about them. Weaver wonders what his lost mate and child's names were.
meri lin #138: at the tableMeri Lin is feeding Benjamin a snack in his high chair and he expresses desire to eat both of the available choices once he gets a good hold on the word "too." But then he asks to do something else "too," and Meri Lin has trouble figuring it out until finally she realizes he wants to sit at the table. A booster seat is in the future, which is bittersweet for her.
ivy #286: unsupervisedIvy tags along with Alix into the city and wanders off on her own to look at hair accessories in a store. She talks to a human girl who looks about her age and experiences a longing to have someone around who's an actual peer.
adele #227: ground rulesAdele is waiting to have words with Alix when he returns to the grounds with Ivy. She urgently explains that he must ask permission before using the pool or bad things could happen, and emphasizes that in the future when pool use gets more complicated it will be important so they need to form good habits now. She also claims that taking Ivy to the city is dangerous. Alix mostly takes it well (though he gets a little sullen), but Adele is disturbed by how strongly she feels that Ivy needs to be kept out of the city.
weaver #140: unpredictableIvy has returned from the city with a headband that has excited her a great deal. When Weaver realizes she got it in a store and discusses the experience with Ivy, she is effusive, chattering about the girl she met in the hair accessories aisle and expressing her wish for peers. Weaver is concerned about her being in the city and Ivy is frustrated that no one wants her to have fun, and she doesn't see the danger. Weaver is not sure how to keep her safe and wonders whether he should supervise a sneaky trip to the city so she'll still see him as on her side when it comes to bending rules and going on adventures.
dax #133: draw the lineDax is gardening when Weaver comes to ask for advice. He explains that Ivy wants city adventures and he's thinking of going with her on a few trips to help her feel like she's rebelling, even though Adele is against it. Dax is also against it--and aghast that Weaver would consider such danger!--but Weaver seems convinced that Ivy may want to do it alone without guidance if they don't curate her fun somehow. Or, maybe, now is the time to draw the line, leaning on Weaver's previous involvement in testing boundaries with Ivy.
adele #228: meeting of equalsAdele comes to discuss Ivy's interest in the city with Weaver. They have a "meeting of equals" debating whether Ivy's curiosity should be encouraged. Adele gets a concession from Weaver that they at least shouldn't encourage her, given that Ivy is far more vulnerable to the dangers that threaten her while she is this young.
ivy #287: outside worldAdele asks to chat with Ivy after the kids go to bed, which seems weird. Adele is fishing to have Ivy express interest in shopping by herself, but she is hesitant since she isn't comfortable being alone out in the world. Weaver overhears and seems confused why Adele is putting the idea in Ivy's head considering she was just telling him not to do it. Ivy is surprised to hear she was expected to want to sneak out and wonders if she is supposed to want to.
dax #134: the world is wideDax observes the group of Adele, Alix, and Ivy going through the pool to do some construction. He thinks about how he is left out and unable to walk in the world of humans, and ruminates on how he is essentially content with his spot of paradise. However, he does wonder.
ivy #288: installationAlix, Adele, and Ivy go to a new place with a portal opening that's in a rather deep lake. The three use their own special skills to purchase, transport, and install a tube held down over the portal opening by a heavy block, accessible by ladder. Ivy is impressed with the structure but also thinks it probably wouldn't be necessary for her to use deep portals, and marvels at how difficult other people's lives must be that they have to be able to invent things like this to do things that are easy for her.
adele #229: just not stickingAdele has made plush letters to help Tab learn more about the sounds letters make. Tab immediately recognizes that this is "alphabet stuff" and doesn't really want to try, but she does have one small breakthrough where she realizes that B makes the "buh" sound no matter where in a word it is. She is still unable to find letters on the page or to reliably spell her name, though. Adele is still somewhat heartened by the exercise.
weaver #141: warm enoughAdele presents Weaver and Thursday with a hand warmer and some LEGO bricks to build Thursday a warm bed. They do so and Thursday is so comfortable being warm that he gets blissed out and worries Weaver. He thinks Thursday seems emotional about being warm and is glad they can finally give this experience to him.
dax #135: standing stillDax has a chat with Alix about how he feels a little left behind because everyone else likes to build and innovate and he mostly doesn't care to effect change. He wonders if he could be considered stagnant because of it. Alix mostly reassures him, but he has doubts.
meri lin #139: the lucky oneMeri Lin gets a bunch of chocolates for Mother's Day, which were largely wrapped by her son. Benjamin enjoys watching his mother open things and she then enjoys meals prepared for her and a day of relaxation. At night, Fred presents her with a very touching Mother's Day card with a bonus kiss. His card says he's so lucky to have her but she feels she's the lucky one.
weaver #142: daredevilWeaver admires Ivy's fearlessness when it comes to playing dropping games in the air, and ends up unwittingly agreeing to let her hold him while she drops so he can experience it. He doesn't handle it great and definitely doesn't think it's fun. They discuss how they might be built different and consult with Alix about whether humans like falling. He tells them about extreme sports where humans defy death to enjoy falling, even though they're afraid. Weaver's confused and wonders if Ivy's enjoyment of such things really counts since she has a prepackaged safety button.
adele #230: we still have somethingAdele sneaks off to speak to Webster again and they end up flirting. He wonders if he could spend the night with her if he wore a blindfold and promised not to look at her. She is angry both because he asked and because she wishes it could be. She explains that she has already seen he will reject her for reasons beyond her appearance, and he thinks it is unfair that she would be mad at him for something he hasn't yet done. She wonders how she can end their relationship but currently feels she can't.
ivy #289: sit downIvy, Weaver, Dax, and Alix are hanging out discussing Adele's absence. Ivy and Weaver take it in stride and trust Adele is fine, but Alix thinks they're too calm and they must know something they're hiding from him. Weaver's attempt to de-escalate makes Alix angry and Ivy interprets some of his movements as threatening Weaver. She stands up to Alix and ends up shoving him to make him sit down. But then Ivy apologizes and asks Alix to see their perspective and apologize too. He does.
dax #136: what kind of responseDax comes out to walk Adele in when he sees her coming home in the distance. He begins to update her and ask her advice on the squabble that happened while she was gone, but he sees that she's a little spacey, and decides it was wrong of him to just dump that on her without asking if she's okay or what kept her overnight. He correctly assumes something's wrong and offers to listen, and she tentatively takes him up on it, saying she's been thinking about breaking up with Webster. Dax realizes she's not asking for advice on whether or how and just wants someone to listen and support.
weaver #143: antagonizedWeaver exchanges some conversation with Alix about whether they are cool now and whether he'll need to watch his back. Alix seems exasperated that Weaver thinks he might hurt him and says maybe Weaver should apologize if he wants to feel better, but he refuses. Weaver thinks it's nice that Alix isn't holding a grudge, but that doesn't mean he's going to stop treating a dope like a dope.
adele #231: simple termsDax and Adele continue to talk in the forest in a private conversation. Adele expresses that she wants to keep Webster because she appreciates just being a person with him, not having him fulfill a purpose in a plan. But Dax leads her to understand, in simple terms, that she wants to keep what she has with him even as it's not what Webster wants, and that the relationship will continue to get more frustrating. Adele wonders why passionate love developed in her for someone like Webster and not someone like Dax, even though she values his compassion more than Webster's passion.
ivy #290: the one who's realIvy greets Adele upon her return and gets the kids for lunch. She hears Alix complaining that Ivy is tall and she wonders if there's something actually wrong with her height or if he's just being a jerk. Then when she sits in the air, Tab, then Alix, comments on her sitting that way. Alix thinks she should be bobbing up and down because that's what he's seen in movies. She decides to turn it around on him and ask why people are writing stories about stuff they haven't seen. She feels a little more comfortable about being asked questions as they make vague plans to go see a movie that contains flying together.
dax #137: one teacher, two kidsDax finds himself teaching a very reluctant Thursday in reading lessons. He wants to learn with Tab and Adele again, but when Dax is concerned that he's not a good teacher, Thursday admits he just wants there to be one teacher and both kids. He goes off to find Ivy and Tab and they agree to let Thursday read to them, solving the reluctance problem. But then Tab asks a question about where the kids in the book come from--how do babies get made anyway?--and Dax feels ill-prepared to answer. He agrees they should all go ask Adele together, and wonders why he feels awkward about the question.
adele #232: the grown-upAdele finds herself with a group of four--Dax, Ivy, Thursday, and Tab--descending upon her wanting an explanation of how babies are made. While implying that Dax should have been willing to field this question, she agrees to explain, and does so. And then when the kids begin asking a variety of questions, Dax is also a little overwhelmed by how to answer them and Adele feels like she's the only one willing to be a grown-up. It's frustrating to her because she's tired of having to be the answer girl even for questions others can answer.
weaver #144: personal experienceWeaver, upon entering the cave, overhears some bickering and weird questions from the children and correctly gleans that he's walked in on a sex ed lesson. Adele is also apparently irritated with Dax for making her do the education when he could have helped. Ivy takes the children out so the adults can talk, leading to Dax explaining his reasoning to Adele as to why he didn't feel qualified to explain--and he mentions that without personal experience with sex, he's not sure he's the best person to explain. Adele disagrees, as she has no experience either and thinks it's okay to educate without it. Weaver claims high ground on the basis that he's not a virgin, and offers willingness to field questions (despite that he doesn't remember his romantic life). He puts on a confident face for the others but has some internal doubts.
ivy #291: your own choiceIvy is relieved when Weaver interrupts her getting grilled with questions from Tab and Thursday that she can't answer, offering to answer questions himself. He gives his own summary of how sex works and fields some more questions. Ivy is surprised at herself that she never wondered about these things, and also can't imagine that one day she might want to have sex for its own sake. When the other kids imply that she'll HAVE to do it when she's grown up, Weaver assures her that that's not true and it's her choice, and she may feel differently when she's older, but it's okay if she doesn't.
weaver #145: right for youWeaver offers to help clarify anything Ivy's still wondering, but she's more wondering why she never wondered. She asks some questions about whether she can be sure that she's maturing properly, and Weaver assures her that comparing herself with norms or with the other children isn't constructive.
ivy #292: i have questionsAlix follows up on his suggestion to take Ivy out to see a Superman movie. They watch the movie on VHS at Alix's friend Cherie's house. Ivy has a ton of questions--some of which are about the superhero and flying aspects of the character, but some of which are just scattered questions about what's happening in the movie--and Alix doesn't want her to ask them in front of his friend. When they leave she dumps all her questions all over Alix and has even more thoughts she's pondering.
dax #138: out of respectIvy comes back from having seen a superhero movie and wants to talk to Weaver and Dax about it. When Dax is curious about her experience, Ivy relays frustration over not having been allowed to ask questions to help her understand the movie. Dax advises her to accept not knowing out of respect for the storytellers and companions trying to enjoy the story, and suggests that pondering her questions quietly might help her find her own answers. But he is willing to accept that maybe the answers either of them would find in such a situation would not be accurate, and that maybe he should be more curious.
meri lin #140: project managerMeri Lin has noticed that Benjamin loves to build but seeks her approval for his actions, like he's the architect but she's his project manager. She experiences a kind of awe seeing him learn, execute his plans, and simply exist, and wonders if her awe about Amanda's talents were really so different. She's glad he's autonomous but still dependent on her for approval.
adele #233: trustAdele has a talk with Ivy about her future missions, discussing the reasons Ivy will be the public face of the group's efforts to get their house built and more in the future. Ivy seems skeptical and Adele explains why she's the perfect diplomat despite her misgivings.
ivy #293: the deciderAdele decides to set up a test mission for Ivy and while they're figuring out that she can help another young girl rescue her cat, Ivy is surprised to find Adele giving her very little guidance on how to approach the task. She isn't used to the idea that she can decide how something should be done, and isn't entirely comfortable with the idea, but she's eager to move forward when she learns the cat that needs rescue is thirsty and needs help soon.
ivy #294: bad planningIvy goes on her first practice mission and finds herself feeling a little awkward when she's face to face with the people whose cat she will rescue. She doesn't quite know how to tell them where the cat is and feels intimidated by the owner's worry that it isn't the right cat. So she brings the cat back for them to solve the problem and tries to get the owners to let her stay around and play with the cat. She doesn't feel like they really want her there even though they're being nice since she did them a favor. Ivy feels out of her element.
ivy #295: a bad thing to beIvy thinks deeply about the experience of doing a favor for others without connecting with them personally, and wonders whether it's bad that she's lonely and what she might have to do to find friends who would accept her differences. She decides against prolonging the outing and goes home, and discusses with Adele whether she should share more of herself in future missions. It is apparently up to her.
weaver #146: who deserves herIvy tells Weaver about her mission and he's sad to think Ivy helped people who made her think she wasn't likable. He thinks she needs to be weirder, not less weird, so she can have true friends who deserve her. He worries that Adele is taking liberties with her safety or happiness by making decisions about Ivy's activities without consulting with any of the other adults who love her.
ivy #296: didn't stop herTab asks why Ivy can't take her on a fun mission and Ivy doesn't really have a good reason except that Adele asked her to do it and they have to avoid certain contact with humans. Tab dares Ivy to stop her and goes through the pool. Ivy, belatedly, follows her and takes her back. They come back to Adele standing there.
ivy #297: disappointedAdele is "disappointed" in Ivy's judgment and very firmly tells both girls that they must never use the pools without her express permission again, but Ivy feels like Adele's expectation that she will control Tab's behavior isn't very fair and also her suggestion that they could get stranded if they use the pool willy-nilly is unreasonable since Adele would be able to find them. Nevertheless, Ivy plans to listen to Adele. She's just not very happy about how she was scolded.
dax #139: whose faultDax and Weaver observe that Ivy looks troubled so they ask for her thoughts. Ivy reveals that she's been scolded for letting Tab do something bad, and she expresses her misgivings that she should be responsible for Tab's actions when nobody's responsible for hers. Dax offers to talk to Adele about it for her while letting Weaver spend some time with her to cheer her up.
adele #234: own her mistakesDax approaches Adele to ask about what she said to Ivy about her responsibility for Tab. After hearing what Dax has to say about responsibility weighing heavy on Ivy, Adele agrees that she could use more help, but that having her own responsibilities is important.
weaver #147: being worseWeaver spends some time flying with Ivy and listening to her concerns about watching Tab. She doesn't want to stop but she wishes Tab would be nicer to her and she wonders what it would be like if she just wasn't nice and mature--if she could be awful sometimes. Weaver offers to go with her to do something to blow off steam.
ivy #298: what's good for meIvy and Weaver are wrestling and Alix comes over to bug them about productivity. Weaver aggressively defends Ivy about the need for play, and Ivy's surprised Weaver feels so strongly about this. She pitches in in her own defense about how they've already DONE what needs to be done and Alix shouldn't be complaining--and maybe HE should play sometimes too. He backs off, but leaves Ivy and Weaver annoyed.
adele #235: once and for allAdele has written a letter to Webster describing Dax's opinion on Adele's and Webster's mismatched happiness. She calls him after allowing him to do some thinking, and they discuss where their relationship should go once and for all. Adele's boundaries state that Webster has to be happy with never seeing her or being with her. And Webster, thinking himself equally entitled to make demands, says their relationship requires that she promise to take a road trip with him one day. She rejects this and tells him it's over and she hopes he does have a nice life without her. She wonders why she just feels empty instead of sorrowful, and thinks she will serve her family better without emotions anyway.
adele #236: a clean breakAdele feels blank, then regretful, then determined to move forward being as practical as she can. She turns her focus on how impractical it is to have long hair and gives herself a short haircut impulsively. She then regrets that because it might alarm her family, but she can't undo it. She hopes she is moving forward into a future where she makes objective, practical choices, and is happy to be looking the part.
dax #140: what strong people doDax is playing with Tab and trying to be genuinely present even though her activities are not entertaining for him. He decides to propose to her that she should learn to manage her strength through meditation. Tab seems intrigued that Dax says Ivy wasn't able to learn it well and thinks she could, though she says Ivy has nothing to do with it and her interest is based on wanting to do what strong people do.
weaver #148: textbook reactionAdele comes home with a haircut and shows it off to Alix and Weaver. They display positive reactions and then when she goes off to show the kids, Alix and Weaver agree that she probably broke up with her guy--it's a textbook reaction to cut your hair after you've had guy drama. Thursday turns out to be shocked by the haircut and Ivy admonishes him to be nicer about it. He didn't want her to cut her hair and thinks she should have stayed the same, and urges Ivy not to cut hers.
ivy #299: not my businessThe remaining group members who haven't seen Adele's hair--Dax and Tab--weigh in, and Ivy wonders if there was a reason Adele cut her hair besides spontaneously wanting a change. She suspects there's something else going on but doesn't want to pry. She offers to help Adele even out her hair since it looks a bit choppy, and Adele accepts.
dax #141: carrying waterDax is bringing water back to the cave and encounters Adele seeming unusually out of touch with what's going on. Adele ends up admitting to Dax that she broke up with Webster and states that she'd like him to not tell the others and not bring it up again. He thinks maybe she would feel better if she talks about it, but she insists. She doesn't want his gentleness, but he will continue to offer it.
adele #237: time will tellAdele and Ivy are working with pebbles and Ivy gets tired of doing it. They joke around while taking a break and Ivy asks some questions about Adele's experience of having short hair. Adele wonders if she'll keep it or grow it long again.
weaver #149: imaginary scenarioTab and Thursday come to Weaver to settle whether Tab or Thursday is taller. (Comparatively, somehow.) He refuses to choose and says it's meaningless anyway because the scenario of "if they were the same kind of person" is imaginary. They don't like his answer and decide to ask Adele. Weaver resents the idea that taller height is valued.
ivy #300: most people's natureIvy goes on another practice mission and isn't able to help the person she's assigned to. Adele encourages her to think of more creative solutions where the person she's helping can help her as well, but she struggles to think of ways she can accomplish this and wonders if she's just not going to be able to accomplish missions when they do start to get more important.
dax #142: suspiciousIvy asks Dax what he thinks she should have done in the situation with her failed mission. He doesn't know why she wants his advice since he has no practical knowledge about the outside world, but when she makes it clear this is a question of whether she is being taught to lie, Dax realizes it's a moral question. He encourages Ivy to think about what she authentically does want and encourages her to negotiate with others regarding things she could actually use. Ivy has thinking to do, and Dax is delighted with her principles.
weaver #150: brainstormWeaver thinks it's reasonable for Ivy's mission subjects to be suspicious of selfless help and helps Ivy understand why, but he wants to make sure she gets enough guidance from Adele and isn't left floundering. He recommends brainstorming some solutions with Adele before missions and advises her to come to him if Adele isn't giving her enough help.
meri lin #141: a person as wellMeri Lin has decided to look for a part-time job and send her son to daycare for some days, and makes the mistake of telling her mother about it as if it's good news. Her mother dislikes the idea of her grandson in daycare and shames Meri Lin. Meri Lin feels it's good for her son AND good for her, and her mother finds that to be even more selfish. Meri Lin refuses to agree that wanting something for herself beyond motherhood is selfish.
ivy #301: why can't i?Ivy reluctantly takes her problems to Alix hoping for some insight into how to help humans solve problems without being suspicious. He agrees with Weaver and Dax that helping others usually involves reciprocation, and suggests she treat her sessions with Adele as opportunities to find people who can help her as much as she can help them. Which should be fair even if she's not figuring it out on her own, because after all, Adele does it that way herself.
adele #238: railingsIvy comes to Adele to say she wants help finding more guidance on how to interact with her mission subjects, and Adele is not only supportive; she's surprised that Ivy would have thought she doesn't want to help her. She gives some direction to Ivy about how to focus her quest for information and Ivy comes up with an idea about how to involve herself. Adele looks forward to teaching a real prophecy student.
ivy #302: seasickAdele encourages Ivy to introduce her own choices into the matrix of pebbles so she can follow an idea to its logical conclusions, but Ivy is overwhelmed and suffocated under a maelstrom of feelings she doesn't understand. On top of simply not being able to follow the myriad possibilities, Ivy experiences a crushing dread that makes her absolutely not want to be involved in the prediction. She becomes nauseated and Adele isn't able to comfort her very well, so at her request, Adele leaves her alone to recover.
adele #239: you have choicesAdele approaches Ivy after she's feeling better and discusses their future approach together. She tells Ivy she has choices about how to approach these missions. She can "wing it," or she can talk to Adele and sort through possibilities like anyone else might. She's not alone in this, and she can always access Adele's wisdom.
weaver #151: luckyBefore their evening flight, Weaver and Ivy talk about Ivy's odd experience being disturbed by helping with Adele's visions and her future opportunities to help others. Ivy's reluctant and thinks she has to find a way to be good at this or she'll keep messing people's lives up. Weaver encourages her to think about her involvement in people's lives as a blessing, like the people who receive her help are so lucky to be chosen by their group for assistance. Ivy doesn't quite seem to get why anyone would be lucky to have her helping them but Weaver hopes he can guide her to understand herself that way.
dax #143: something to offerAlix invites Dax and Weaver to his gazebo for some beer and a guys' night. They talk about alcohol's effect on calming down and whether Ivy might benefit from it. (Weaver is strongly against her being given anything to curb her inhibitions.) Weaver shares his philosophy that Ivy should view the humans she meets as if they're receiving an honor, and Alix thinks that will inflate her ego. Dax wonders about his own value for future mission subjects.
ivy #303: something about the truthIvy goes on another mission, this time to help a woman move some furniture. She ends up deciding to tell the woman that she can move things without touching them, just to make the process easier, and the woman doesn't get upset and respectfully lets her do her thing. She even gives Ivy a drink and a hug afterwards. Ivy isn't a huge fan of having her ability called "magic" but she can't put her finger on why. She wonders if she was supposed to be honest like this or if it was the easy way out.
adele #240: yours to shareAdele thinks Ivy did a great job on her mission helping a woman with her moving, but Ivy seems to feel that she cheated, or that helping the woman using her energy was not what Adele wanted her to do. Adele counters, explaining that both of them will always have access to their abilities and shouldn't have to pretend they don't when they handle problems in their lives. Ivy feels a little better but wants some coaching on how to avoid feeling weird when she talks about it to new people.
weaver #152: cheatingWeaver consults Ivy on a problem he's having with the kids: Tab wants a zipper pouch like Thursday now has, but Thursday wants to be the only one who has one and resents that Tab would want one when she has her pick of clothes. Ivy suggests some possible solutions--settling on maybe giving Tab a purse so it's something only SHE can have--and Weaver compliments her problem-solving skills. Which she doesn't think she deserves because she still isn't satisfied with what felt like "cheating" on her last mission. But Weaver points out that just using your skills isn't cheating--similar to what Adele said--and reminds Ivy that she seems dissatisfied regardless of whether the mission is too hard or too easy.
dax #144: anyone can be wiseIvy sits on Dax's lap--he's the only one big enough that she can comfortably do that now!--and discusses how people like them (who aren't great at analysis) can still solve these kinds of problems. Dax discusses the difference between wisdom and intelligence and advises her that wisdom is adequate for addressing real-life issues. He also doesn't want her to get the idea that children can't develop wisdom, because he believes she can.
adele #241: i may be enoughAdele wakes up feeling like today is when she needs to process unresolved feelings about Webster. But since she doesn't have a therapist and doesn't feel any of her companions would make a good substitute, she only has herself to rely on. She takes to her journal to write out how she feels about both the past and the future regarding Webster, and acknowledges that she can feel regret for what she's lost while still being positive about the future.
ivy #304: personal stuffIvy finds Adele writing "personal stuff" and after a little prying finds out Adele has broken up with Webster but she doesn't want to talk about it. Ivy is instantly sad and desperate to offer comfort she believes Adele should have wanted and needed, but Adele keeps emphasizing that talking it out--especially with a child--is not what she believes will help her. She asks Ivy not to talk about her breakup with the others and assures Ivy that she will bring other feelings to her anytime she thinks Ivy's listening ear will be helpful, but she wants Ivy to respect the will of the people she wants to help. She processes this and agrees.
weaver #153: my thingWeaver and Ivy take a flight. Ivy talks to Weaver about how Adele processes emotions using her journaling, and wonders if she ought to do something similar. After exploring the different ways the group deals with their emotions, Weaver points out that Ivy's already dealing with hers by mulling them over during flights (accompanied and not). Weaver reflects on how much he loves seeing Ivy's development.
ivy #305: that's not meIvy and Tab are doing laundry when Tab accuses Ivy of flying during the chore just to show off. Ivy is exasperated that Tab thinks her natural way of interacting with the world is calculated to inspire her jealousy, and instead of getting mad she gets sad and briefly cries in front of Tab. She tries to help Tab understand that she needs her energy to make up for her body's disadvantages. Tab doesn't fully understand but wants to teach Ivy to run.
dax #145: time aloneDax comes to the shed during a storm and finds Weaver is there, matching his suspicions. They have a late-night chat about what kind of alone time and what kind of togetherness time they like. They both like how things are.
adele #242: in the shadowIvy comes to Adele yet again for advice, this time about how to handle Tab being jealous of her and thinking she's the kind of person who would flaunt her abilities just to hurt Tab. Adele gives some perspectives on how it might be difficult to have Ivy as a big sister but her true nature will be clear to Tab one day.
weaver #154: big enoughIvy asks Weaver whether he thinks she should deal with Tab's jealousy by praising her for things she can do better than Ivy and suggesting those things are more important, but Weaver believes Ivy shouldn't have to make herself smaller to make Tab feel big enough. He says Tab's frustration is her own problem and Ivy doesn't need to solve it, but he agrees that the adults there can model appropriate ways to regard Ivy. He privately wonders whether some of Tab's resentment grew out of Ivy being her disciplinarian, and resolves to look into whether the adults there can take responsibility for that.
ivy #306: the normal wayTab, in a bad mood, yells at Ivy to stop making nut butter because it bothers her that she's using her powers. Alix tries to joke around about how it's hard to get used to but that's Ivy's normal, and Ivy ends up telling Tab that it's her own responsibility to look away if she doesn't like seeing Ivy use her abilities; she will not change her behavior for Tab, no matter how much Tab hates her. And then she has to walk away to be alone briefly. Tab surprises Ivy by approaching and saying she doesn't hate her, then leaving her alone. Ivy can live with that.
dax #146: a feeling i don't have anymoreDax catches up with Tab after another unsuccessful reading lesson and chats about her experience. When she wishes her scratching post was closer to home, Dax says they could give her a closer one and Tab spontaneously suggests Ivy should get her one. When Dax is surprised Tab doesn't seem upset about that, he manages to get out of her that she has no quarrel with Ivy anymore and has just stopped resenting her. She doesn't want to be like a jealous kid in a storybook, and suddenly saw her feelings as being at odds with who she wants to be. Dax thinks this is very mature of her, and wonders if Ivy knows.
