LIST OF COMICS 601-700

weaver #80: more like usWeaver missed all the excitement over Alix getting mad at Adele for having a secret. Weaver acknowledges that Adele's allowed to have a secret, but now Ivy has a question for him, and struggles to ask without revealing Adele's secret to Weaver. She manages to ask the question, wanting to know what humans are. And Weaver has a hard time answering whether Ivy herself counts as a human or as one of their group of outsiders.
ivy #200: winter coatAdele approaches the group and asks if anyone has any special requests for her trip to the city. Alix and Weaver point out that Adele took that trip very recently, but she says Ivy needs a winter coat. At that point Alix notices Ivy doesn't appear cold despite the chilly weather, and he treats this peculiarity like it's suspicious. Ivy becomes uncomfortable with the attention.
adele #130: six daysAdele mails her letter to Webster and is frustrated that she'll have to wait so long to hear from him again. She then realizes through her intuition that Webster will be responding quickly and she'll be able to receive his next letter during her trip if she hangs out in the city for six days. She happily does so, assuming the others won't be worried, and looks eagerly forward to receiving his next letter.
meri lin #121: this explains herMeri Lin and her friends MJ and Priya have their usual parent group, with their sons playing. Priya's son Rafael pushes Benjamin's hands off a chair so he falls, but he seems fine, and Priya complains that he's learning bad behavior from other boys and needs girls around to teach him gentler play. MJ disagrees, and Meri Lin blithely comments that her daughter was more aggressive than her son is. She realizes what she says and explains what happened to her daughter, and wonders if her friends always knew there was something sorrowful at the root of who she was.
adele #131: the face you hideAdele picks up Webster's letter and reads it in a bathroom. In it, Webster again expresses desire to see more of Adele and learn whatever she's hiding. Adele offers to let him choose whether to keep their delightful fantasy or learn some truth he might not like. She mails the letter after telling him she will call him on the phone after he answers her letter.
ivy #201: not here to askDax comments that someone being gone for longer than expected is usually something they'd ask Adele about, but since Adele's the one who's gone, they can't. Ivy interprets this as a joke and laughs, while Alix is disturbed that she thinks it's funny and believes she knows more than she's letting on. The two bicker briefly, with Alix accusing and Ivy defensive, until Weaver spots Adele coming through the high grass.
adele #132: the beginning of the endAdele has worked herself into a tizzy imagining all the potential negative outcomes of Webster's reaction to her letter, and when she returns to her companions, she immediately snaps at them and isolates herself. Ivy comes to comfort her, and Adele sends an apology back to the group with her. While pondering who she might be able to confide in, Dax approaches her, and Adele decides she'll talk about her doubts to him.
dax #74: where it's goingDax goes into the home cave to comfort Adele and agrees to listen to her problems. She pours out her story of how she met Webster and how they're involved through letters, and reveals some of her insecurities and conflicting emotions. When Dax validates her feelings and says she's allowed to have them without being selfish, she becomes even more emotional. Dax realizes while offering her a hug that maybe Adele isn't used to being treated like she's allowed to have a self.
adele #133: the heart finds a wayDax continues to talk to Adele about her conundrum over Webster, and he asks about her options. Dax is optimistic that Adele will be able to tell the truth and still retain her closeness with him, but Adele isn't so sure. She can't see a way her relationship with him can lead to anything good.
ivy #202: always yellingIvy has a good fishing day and brings in eight fish, but Alix is upset that she would catch so many that they didn't need and accuses her of catching so many just to show off. When Weaver defends her and says Alix is jealous and shouldn't correct her behavior by yelling at her, Alix suggests he is the only one in the group who's always being criticized. Ivy feels that Alix is angry at her for no reason, and is angry in return.
weaver #81: basic respectWeaver asks Ivy to run along so he can talk to Alix about his treatment of her, and before she leaves she glares at Alix. Weaver warns that Alix is in danger of being hurt if Ivy snaps because he doesn't respect her, while Alix is flippant. Alix agrees to let Weaver give him pointers on how to get along with Ivy so he doesn't end up dead, but Weaver is just as worried that hurting Alix could have negative consequences on Ivy too.
dax #75: the problem childWeaver has asked Dax to talk to Alix about his attitude, so Dax takes him on a hunting trip and does so. He quickly finds out that Alix is bitter and jealous, and feels impotent over both his inability to discipline Ivy without major risk and everyone else's treating him like he's the problem. Dax, unsurprisingly, agrees with Weaver that Alix's attitude will not be effective and will endanger him. He advises him to hang back and watch how the others nurture her until he's ready to mimic.
adele #134: teaching them respectWeaver comes to Adele for a request from the future. He wants her to figure out whether Alix really is going to get hurt by Ivy losing her temper the way he thinks she will. Adele is impressed that Weaver cares that much about Alix, and Weaver notes that he's also nervous Ivy will hate herself if she hurts him. When Adele does look into the future and see the danger, she also realizes it needs to happen so Ivy and Alix will both learn to respect Ivy's power, and it's best for it to happen when she is young and the damage won't be fatal.
adele #135: follow the fantasyAdele checks her mail at the post office and is surprised that Webster answered that he actually doesn't want "the truth" after all. He wants to keep enjoying the fantasy and seeing where it takes them, because that's "true" too, and he's concerned that Adele is trying to drop bombshells just as a defense mechanism to push him away before she gets invested. Adele goes to a hotel and calls him on the phone, and they begin to chat about incidentals. Adele is thrilled with how satisfying it is to have access to everyday conversations like this.
meri lin #122: imitating itBenjamin imitates Meri Lin and Fred's greeting kiss and they're both delighted. Meri Lin had been worrying that Benjamin isn't a very affectionate child, and she still worries that he's just imitating them, but she considers it a good sign.
adele #136: formativeAdele continues talking to Webster on the phone and they discuss their education. Adele admits she remembers maybe having an education, and discusses her situation with educating Ivy. She worries that withholding important information about her formative experiences will damage their relationship, but knows it's unavoidable for now.
adele #137: his kind of prettyAdele continues talking to Webster on the phone and they discuss his ex-wife. Adele remembers that Webster's ex actually had special surgery to look more feline because she felt her soul was a cat, and Adele and Webster discuss this. She calls him very accepting, and they move on to talk about other kinds of body modification.
dax #76: about to burstWeaver and Dax come upon Alix and Ivy arguing because Ivy ate Alix's can of peaches. He's mad because he thinks she should have known not to take his food, and she's mad because he's treating her like she did it just to upset him. Dax thinks it's ridiculous that a can of peaches is at the center of a heated argument, and Weaver is dismissive, scolding Alix for the way he scolds Ivy. She becomes agitated in a way that makes Weaver and Dax nervous, though Alix seems oblivious because he thinks he's successfully standing up to her. Dax figures an outburst from Ivy is not far off.
adele #138: the presentAdele's talk with Webster continues as they discuss yawns that trigger the other person to yawn, fading into a talk about intimacy and making another person feel good. Adele is a little embarrassed when the conversation leads into her admission that she can't remember being intimate with anyone, and Webster brings up how her past and her future may be empty of intimacy but maybe the present doesn't have to be. He asks where she is.
adele #139: can't imagineAdele puts Webster solidly in his place, making it very clear that he isn't meeting her tonight and his expectation to do so was inconsistent with his suggestion that he wants to preserve their fantasy instead of knowing the truth. They talk about what could possibly make him reject her and she invites him to simply change his answer next time he writes to her. They agree to fall asleep on the phone together.
weaver #82: two bottlesAdele returns to the beach and gives out her gifts. Weaver is thrilled with his pineapple soda but Alix seems a little disappointed with the bottles of root beer Adele got him. Weaver gets on his case about being ungrateful as Adele defends the practicality of bringing items that aren't too heavy, which leads to Alix suggesting Adele should take Ivy with her on trips to carry heavy stuff (and free them of making her behave while she's gone). Weaver and Alix snipe over discipline again.
ivy #203: definitely meant toIvy has come to the conclusion that Alix will always be mad at her no matter what she does, so she antagonizes him on purpose by swiping one of his precious root beer bottles. She gets caught drinking it and spitting it in the forest, and Alix confronts her. But Ivy is having dark thoughts about how she must be a bad person, and she has no qualms about knocking Alix away from her roughly when he takes her arm. She quickly finds Alix is unconscious and doesn't know quite what to do or how to feel about it, but she acknowledges that it was not an accident.
dax #77: matter-of-factWhen Ivy brings Alix back to camp injured, Dax and the others know that the incident they've been expecting has finally come to pass. Dax watches as Adele tends to Alix and Weaver tends to Ivy, noting that Ivy's eyes hold no real clue on how she's feeling, but that she doesn't seem remorseful, shocked, or vindictive. He doesn't know his place in the aftermath and asks Adele what he should do, and she sends him on an errand to get painkiller herbs. He suspects this is busywork and wonders about Ivy's state of mind.
adele #140: hard on herAdele decides Alix needs to go to the city for medical care. Getting there will be the problem, so she proposes they let Ivy fly them there, but Alix aggressively objects on the grounds that Ivy broke his arm in the first place and can't be trusted. Adele agrees to respect this and readies Alix for departure, worried about Ivy's emotional state but figuring Weaver will handle it.
weaver #83: quietWeaver has been left to deal with Ivy's emotional fallout after she hurt Alix, and he thinks he's in over his head, but after encouraging Ivy to talk, he realizes she's basically got it figured out how she should think about it--that her powers don't make her bad, but that they do need focus and control. Weaver supports her and reassures her that she's supposed to make mistakes growing up, and she seems relieved.
adele #141: what you want to sayAdele walks Alix out to the main road to help him get the right ride into town for medical treatment. She offers to pass the time with some conversation but he rejects it, believing Adele just wants to lecture him on how his injury was his own fault. She denies this, but he goes on to say he knows everyone blames him for Ivy's behavior. Once he gets his ride, he says he might not come back if things aren't going to change. Adele wonders what she should do now that she's relatively close to the city.
dax #78: quietingDax, Weaver, and Ivy are on their own for dinner. Dax notices Ivy's quiet and discusses her change of disposition, and offers to teach her meditation to help give her a coping mechanism when she wants to be quieter. Dax feels that he's finally going to be useful in something regarding raising Ivy.
ivy #204: before you eatIvy is ready for a meditation lesson with Dax, but she's hungry, and wants to eat before the lesson, while Dax says it's better for her to be empty so she can devote all of her energy to her meditation. Ivy eventually agrees to Dax's terms and attempts meditation, but finds herself floating without meaning to, inspired by the image of filling herself with air and feeling light. She's disappointed that her attempt to have more control resulted in having less.
adele #142: safe and silentAdele checks her mailbox and has a letter from Webster saying he just wants her to keep her secret for longer since he can never take it back if he says she should disclose. Adele tells Webster she's in the city because Ivy broke Alix's arm, and he comments that her group is like the X-Men, and that if her secret is bigger than THAT, it must be huge. Adele ruminates on how big the secret is.
weaver #84: groundedDax and Weaver aren't having any luck teaching Ivy to meditate without accidentally floating. When Adele comes back she decides to teach her inside the cave for a change of mood, but Ivy whacks her head on the ceiling anyway and has to ice her head. Weaver comforts her when she expresses disappointment over not being able to do it right, and he concludes that there must be other ways to ground her.
dax #79: life in the silenceDax takes Ivy to the deeper woods and talks to her about being powerful, holding power silently, and what Ivy uses movement for. He tries to convey to her how she can find the life in the quiet times instead of feeling like silence means death.
ivy #205: fistsDax and Ivy are still in the forest and he suggests she find a way to acceptably express her anger with her body, in a way that's harmless. Ivy doesn't know how to do that, but Dax points out that she's already doing it when she yells and clenches her fists. She's amazed to realize she doesn't have to stop herself from being angry; she just has to change how she channels it.
adele #143: you guessedWeaver teasingly asks Adele if she's writing to her boyfriend, at which point she briefly believes Dax or Ivy must have told Weaver about her writing to Webster. As she realizes that didn't happen and he was just razzing her, he presses her for details while being offended that she never told him, and she says she didn't tell him because he'd act exactly like he's acting. She agrees to share now that the cat is out of the bag though.
weaver #85: if that means anythingWeaver feels a little guilty and annoyed at the idea that Adele didn't trust him to talk to about Webster. He gives her a sincere apology, declares that he wouldn't have teased her like she thinks, and encourages her to confide in him if she feels comfortable. He finds he still can't help but tease her a bit, though.
meri lin #123: yes sirIt's Benjamin's first birthday. Meri Lin and Fred wait for him to knock his hat off, but he seems to like it fine and just wants cake. They sing to him, find him uninterested in the song, and finally give him his birthday cake. Meri Lin comments that he can have another one next year if he stays.
ivy #206: more exciting than wordsIvy proudly shows Weaver that she can read an entire book by herself, but Weaver realizes she does not retain any comprehension about the story. He discusses it with her, helping her realize it's a story about kids on a baseball team getting into a fight. Ivy, delighted by the storytelling, announces that she wants to emulate the book and have a fist fight like the boys on the team. Weaver protests that it's not a good way to solve problems, but she just wants the experience, so she is able to talk him into roughhousing with her.
dax #80: a bigger challengeIvy wants to wrestle with Dax now, desiring a partner bigger than Weaver. Dax is unsure whether it's safe to try such a thing, so he consults Adele, who says Ivy is in a good mindset for it. Dax returns to her and engages as per her request, immediately pushing her down. Ivy is fazed but gets back up, and Dax wonders if he ought to devise a vulnerable spot for her to attack.
ivy #207: smallIvy speculates on what it is to be small, given that Dax has a lot of physical power and she would have almost none if she didn't have her energy. Dax and Ivy rest after wrestling and talk about the relationship between body and identity.
adele #144: relative maturityAdele, Dax, and Weaver watch Ivy imitate a book character's hairstyle. Prompted by Weaver's queries, Adele discloses that Ivy is between five and six years old, and that she'd be starting school soon if she were a typical child. Adele encourages Ivy's self-grooming by requesting a hairstyle from her, and decides she'll be pulling her into helping with laundry and taking care of her own baths from now on.
weaver #86: hard to live withIvy brings some fish in before her night flying excursion with Weaver, and they discuss how Alix used to do that and how they both feel about wanting him to come back. Weaver suggests Ivy has mixed feelings because sometimes people you love are hard to live with, and Ivy wonders if that's how Alix feels about her. Weaver is surprised at her depth of understanding.
dax #81: fast songDax hangs out with Ivy as she practices a dance she invented and tries to get him to participate.
ivy #208: snow angelsInspired by a book, Ivy puts on a coat and tries to make snow angels, but in the sand. Weaver discusses why they don't have snow where they live, and Ivy is disappointed that it is very unlikely to snow on the beach. She asks what an angel is and Weaver points out that Neptune resembles some traditional representations of them. Ivy had forgotten about Neptune.
adele #145: by myselfAdele tries to get Ivy's help doing laundry, but she prefers to just hang the clothes after Adele cleans them. As Adele tries to explain why it's important for Ivy to learn to help with laundry by doing the whole task herself, Ivy just insists she doesn't want to do it alone. They come to a satisfying conclusion on this topic.
ivy #209: pretty differentIvy comes upon Neptune singing and digging in the mud in the forest, so she joins her and enjoys herself. But then Neptune flies away suddenly and Ivy worries it was her use of her energy to play in the mud that spooked Neptune. She thinks that's unfair because Neptune is really different too and Ivy doesn't run away from HER. She wonders if her life will always be like this.
adele #146: for you and for themAdele is knitting when Ivy comes to her and flops into her lap, despondent. Adele drags the story out of her: Neptune got spooked by something she did, and Ivy is worried she scared her away with her energy, and that this will be a pattern for the rest of her life. Adele reassures her that this time Neptune was scared of Ivy's loud laughter, but when it comes to dealing with the future, she's sure Ivy will find ways to make it easier as she becomes more experienced.
meri lin #124: our own worthFred calls Meri Lin and asks her to get a short-notice sitter so they can go to dinner. It turns out they're celebrating another promotion for Fred, but he's frustrated over it because he feels another employee deserved it more for doing most of the work. Meri Lin reassures him, and encourages him to make sure that employee gets good opportunities under him once he's promoted. She wonders how she came to deserve such a great guy.
adele #147: uncomfortably closeAdele goes to town for a supply run and calls Webster again. They discuss how Webster has trouble understanding Adele's powers as genuine and he admits he sometimes imagines she's actually spying on him through conventional means. They have a conversation about it and Adele can't help but think about how close this conversation is to the conversation that would cause her to lose him.
weaver #87: hold warmthWeaver is very cold during one of his winter rituals with Dax. After the ritual is over Dax suggests he warm up by sitting in his lap, and though he's a little hesitant, he acquiesces and is glad he did.
ivy #210: animalsIvy discovers that the characters in her kids' books tend to go to school if they're human, but not go to school if they're animals. She asks Weaver to help her understand whether that means their group is made up of animals. Weaver explains that they're neither human nor animals . . . sort of.
adele #148: something that scares usWhile reading with Adele, Ivy notices some of the cartoon students in her book have missing teeth, and it scares her. When Adele looks for a way to explain losing childhood teeth, her abilities tell her Ivy won't be losing her teeth, so she's able to reassure her it only happens to human children, not her. Ivy's still very disturbed by it and Adele concludes that everyone, even the most fearless, has something that scares them.
weaver #88: scary thingsIvy recites what she's learned about children losing their teeth to Weaver, admitting it scares her. Weaver, when questioned, doesn't remember whether he lost teeth as a child because he lost his memories, and then Ivy's terrified that THAT'S something that happens as you grow up too. He has to reassure her that it won't happen to her, and they agree that learning scary things is part of growing up.
adele #149: it's comingAdele wakes up with the word "ai-shaifa" in her head, and after some meditation, rediscovers what a "change-storm" is. She realizes it's connected to how she and her otherworldly companions came to this world and predicts another one is coming in about a year.
dax #82: measured and consideredAdele drops a bomb to Dax and Weaver: the reality-warping flash is coming in about a year and they'll have to think about whether they'll want to return to their home world if the dimensional rift opens in such a way that returning is possible.
weaver #89: worth starting over forAfter Adele has revealed that it might be possible to return to their home dimension in a year or so, Dax and Weaver discuss the pros and cons of staying in their current dimension or leaving to go back to their old one, trying to discuss the issue objectively so they know what they should consider before making their decision. They become a little emotional anyway, and are happy to be distracted when Ivy shows up wanting to play a game.
adele #150: why not this?Weaver asks Adele why she can't give him more specific information about the event that's coming. She says emotions and additional possibilities that aren't solidified yet complicate matters, and they end by having Adele request Weaver's primary question so she can let it ruminate and perhaps end up dreaming about it. He says he wants to know if anyone in his home dimension is missing him and wants him to come home.
dax #83: butDax and Weaver speak again about their conundrum, especially regarding how they should handle it if they have different opinions on whether they should stay or go. Weaver has a terrible feeling that he left someone important in the other dimension who wants him to come back. Dax points out that even if they both leave, they won't properly remember each other, so the only way to be sure they keep their relationship is to both stay. They wonder what will become of them.
ivy #211: mad faceWeaver approaches Ivy, apologetic about how he and the others have been ignoring her for a while because they've been preoccupied with troubling news from Adele. Ivy counters that she's been playing grown-up and making a mad face a lot because that's what everyone else was doing, and she recounts for Weaver a list of problems she's been solving or tolerating while no one's been paying attention to her needs. They conclude that they need a nice flight to get their minds off their troubles.
adele #151: this destructive truthAfter Weaver asked Adele to ponder whether he might have left anyone behind in his home dimension, she comes to him with the news that someone there does wish he would come home. Before telling him who wants him back, she considers telling a lie so she can keep him here, because no matter what, his home dimension has lost the person they love. But she determines that she has to give him the truth, and confesses that he has a mate and a daughter. Adele hopes he still decides to stay in this dimension because he essentially has a daughter here too.
weaver #90: this transcendsWeaver tells Dax about what Adele has revealed to him: he has a mate and a daughter in his old dimension. He expresses that he feels he must return to them if he has an option to, and that his connection with them must transcend memory because part of him still belongs to them. Dax thinks you're not yourself without your memories, but Weaver concludes Dax doesn't understand.
dax #84: interruptedDax attempts to subtly convince Weaver to stay by highlighting the importance of his relationships here. But he explains he feels the previous version of himself would have been furious if he didn't try to return to his family. Dax suggests it's like an interruption, while Weaver says no matter what he stays broken, not interrupted. Dax believes a return will solve nothing, and hopes Weaver changes his mind.
ivy #212: kids growIvy brings a fish to Weaver to prepare and they talk about Alix's absence. Weaver comments that he'll be surprised how much Ivy's grown, and he also says he wants to see her grow up. She doesn't understand why he's philosophizing about this and thinks he's criticizing her current growth.
weaver #91: objectiveWeaver goes to Adele and Dax for "objective" advice. He recalls how desperate he was to find Ivy when she went missing a while back, and brings out the drawing she gave him. He wonders if his daughter is drawing similar pictures, and asks Adele and Dax to help him figure out the best course of action minus emotion. Dax says the objective answer is disappointing one little girl instead of two.
adele #152: designate someoneAdele is in the city again on the phone with Webster and he's relieved to hear from her, having been worried she would never write or call again. They make a pact to notify each other by proxy if anything happens to them, and that they won't just stop writing without explanation. Adele realizes she will have to designate Alix as her messenger, and realizes also that it's time to go get him.
meri lin #125: dialed downMeri Lin observes her son coming up with a sentence and again appreciates being able to record his milestones in a book. She still wonders sometimes if Benjamin is going to turn out reasonably normal, and hopes that his subdued emotions and unusual calmness isn't a sign that she has somehow failed to contribute full human emotional range to him.
adele #153: i haven't changedAdele finds where Alix is staying and enters his friend's dwelling to invite him back to the beach. He ponders aloud that he's worried about how he'll deal with Ivy even though he knows it was largely his fault--because neither of them have changed. He needs the night to think about it and invites Adele to stay the night.
ivy #213: moatIvy shows Weaver a sandcastle she built after seeing kids do it in a book. Weaver and Ivy discuss what moats might have been for and how to improve the sandcastle with a drawbridge and water.
adele #154: progressAdele wakes up at Alix's friend's house to him asking if she wants breakfast. He gets her a coffee and says he's ready to go with her. They pick up a few supplies but he's not very talkative on the walk. Adele prods him to discuss what's on his mind and he admits he hasn't figured out how he's going to handle the Ivy situation when he gets back, but that he knows he's the problem but not how to fix it. Adele figures he's made more progress than he thinks if he knows that.
adele #155: so much of myselfAfter a mild nudge from Adele, Alix starts talking. He pours out an admission that he does care about Ivy and recognizes that she doesn't deserve to be treated like a demon (and he knows what that feels like!), but also acknowledges that he doesn't know how to stop being the source of those negative statements because of how he feels about her. He asks Adele if she's capable of providing a shield for him as he figures out where the line is, and she assures him Ivy has done some thinking too.
ivy #214: what we're thinkingAlix returns and Ivy gets spooked, worried that he's going to be angry with her or scared of her. She doesn't know how to act so she retreats and waits at a pond Alix likes, hoping later he'll come to talk to her in private. She gets tired of waiting, but when she comes back, Alix is there and reacts with surprise to an outburst she has attempting to reassure him. They have a lot to talk about.
ivy #215: too scaryAlix and Ivy have a talk by the pond and Alix expresses relief that she's grown up and learned some control, but then he finds out that Ivy thinks he hates her and that she finds his hatred of her as scary as he finds her. He offers her some comfort, reluctantly, while suggesting he's never hated her.
weaver #92: original crewWeaver and Dax welcome Alix back to the beach base with a good old fireside chat. He comments on Ivy's maturity and asks Dax and Weaver what they've been teaching her, but then he says he really came back mostly because he missed hanging out with them and considers them his original crew--no women and children. Weaver objects to being called a bachelor and explains his situation with a family in another dimension, but Alix replies callously and inspires Weaver to stomp off.
dax #85: something in his bloodDax tries to convince Alix that he's behaved insensitively, but Alix is adamant that Weaver is manufacturing his sorrow and he doesn't want to fall for it. Dax thinks he should apologize. They argue until Dax makes a point that gets through to Alix: how would he feel if someone said he had a daughter who wanted to meet him? Alix decides to apologize.
weaver #93: say sorryAlix follows Weaver into the cave and attempts to apologize, but Weaver criticizes his apology for making it about himself. Alix learns to sincerely apologize, and then he asks about what the dimensional event coming up even is.
adele #156: foreign dimensionsAlix asks Adele to summarize the dimensional event that is coming up, so she does so. She explains about how the change-storm event works and what decision the others (mostly Weaver) might be facing as a result. Alix is curious about nearby dimensions that might not require memory loss to travel to.
ivy #216: i feel my sleepingIvy comes to bed and is oblivious to a conversation between Adele and Alix about the upcoming dimensional event. She crawls into Alix's bed and he reluctantly lets her sleep next to him. She awakens when she hears the others behaving as if they're worried a wild animal has invaded the cave, and she realizes they believe such a thing because a pile of boxes fell over. She did it in her sleep by accident, and Alix gets upset about it even though a moment ago he was ready to let her protect them from a large animal. Ivy doesn't know how to feel but she goes back to her own bed.
adele #157: someone littlerAdele has a short argument with Alix in the morning, and then spends some time with Ivy, who's acting a little subdued. Adele feeds her some oatmeal, which she loves, and reads her a story. Ivy notices a little girl in the story has a doll, and she asks if it means she's practicing to be a mom and asks for her own doll.
ivy #217: accidentsIvy confronts Alix about how he seems to not like her. He assures her that he's just scared of what she's been doing in her sleep, and Ivy gets really freaked out over the idea that she actually can't stop herself from accidentally moving things in her sleep sometimes. While Alix grudgingly tries to explain the difference between being mad at her and being scared of her powers, she admits that she's scared of her powers too.
meri lin #126: what makes sense for usMeri Lin overhears some Chinese women having issues ordering sandwiches in a deli due to a language barrier, so she offers to translate and succeeds in helping one of the women avoid an allergen. They offer to pay for Meri Lin's lunch, seeming very friendly, but then they drop judgmental commentary on her for admitting that they do not speak Mandarin in the home and Benjamin is only learning English. She excuses herself, but wonders if she ought to be trying to give that part of herself to her son.
dax #86: heartbeatAlix finds Dax while he's searching for Weaver, and enlists Dax's help calming Ivy down; she's still flipping out over feeling scared about what her abilities might do without her consent and whether she might harm someone accidentally. Dax takes Ivy in his lap and assures her that her incident is as normal as his snoring, but she isn't comforted by that. Finally, he says she can get more control while she's sleeping by practicing more control while she's awake, just like how she can control her bladder. She's finally satisfied by this perspective.
adele #158: sleep mirrors wakefulnessAdele finds Dax sitting with a sleeping Ivy in his lap. He asks whether encouraging control while awake will actually help Ivy avoid accidental telekinetic outbursts in her sleep, and Adele says it's a useful comment because she'll be less stressed about sleeping if she believes that, but it's actually not true that she will grow out of it with more control. Still, it's a risk like any other, and it will be bearable. Adele privately ponders her role as the forecaster of unfortunate circumstances.
weaver #94: experimentAdele's gone to the city for one of her trips again, leaving Weaver in charge of reading with Ivy. Instead, they play with books while trying to choose one to read, and Weaver observes how easy it is for Ivy to stack, sort, and lift quite a lot of books. He asks if she's ever experimented to see how much she can lift, and advises her to experiment with caution. He suspects she's had a bad experience with this, especially since she seems uncharacteristically unenthusiastic about experimentation.
adele #159: simplerAdele arrives in the city after a few things don't really go her way, so she buys herself some candy and talks to Webster on the phone. He asks about her friend's situation, and she's forgotten what he means by that; Webster reminds her that she told him about a friend who is deciding whether to live with his daughter, and she tells him as much as she can about that without revealing details she can't disclose. He completely accepts that she can't explain everything and they both agree they wish her life was simpler.
ivy #218: deep and darkIvy wakes up from a nap in the sand and decides she should do laundry. She pretends to be Adele while doing it and even tries to put the same faraway look in her eyes. She thinks about how Adele has really deep, dark eyes while Ivy herself does not. Then she realizes she can't keep pretending to be Adele and still be able to hang the wash up, so she gives up.
adele #160: skepticAdele continues talking to Webster and he brings up a skeptic friend of his. They discuss skepticism and whether it's reasonable to question extraordinary claims. Adele thinks it's okay as long as someone is polite about it, and she also has no problem either refusing to engage or proving her position in a big way when someone's acting unacceptably. Webster feels like people should really believe each other by default.
ivy #219: meet your babyAdele has brought Ivy hair ornaments and new clothes, but she puts her socks in her hair for fun because she doesn't like stuff on her feet. Then Adele presents her with the doll she'd promised her, made from a kit. Adele has customized the doll to look like Ivy, but she doesn't really notice and is excited about reading to the baby and naming her--and taking off her clothes.
adele #161: consistentIvy wakes Adele up by poking her in the face with her new doll and complaining that the baby doesn't want to go to bed. Ivy begs to take the doll around to see her new home, and Adele tells her it's fine if she goes to find Weaver and takes a flashlight. Alix objects to this because it's inconsistent parenting to let Ivy have no schedule, and Adele disagrees but really can't explain her philosophy. She's just irritated that Alix wants to criticize her parenting but isn't really doing any of his own.
ivy #220: you wanted it fastIvy decides her doll wants a pet, so she asks Adele to make her a doll pet. Adele, improvising, tries to make a duck for Ivy's doll out of scraps, but Ivy is disappointed in how comparatively sloppy the duck is. Adele explains she had no pattern or instructions and was trying to work fast. Ivy decides to try to make her own pet and chooses a fish, and is also not satisfied with her own handiwork. She concludes that this is hard, and Adele helps her understand it's okay for the fish and duck to look that way. Ivy accepts the pets and names her doll Wimba.
weaver #95: what kids are likeWeaver approaches Adele dejectedly and asks permission to dump his feelings on her. He describes a play interaction with Ivy and her dolls in which she changed her mind about some details in the middle of the game and got frustrated when he didn't follow, and he was disturbed and saddened by how familiar that was to him--as if he'd felt it before as a father. He asks Adele what he should do.
adele #162: where you're goingAlix takes off his shirt preceding a soak in his favorite pool, and after trading some strained language about whether Adele thinks he's attractive, she drops a bomb on him: he'll need to start avoiding that pool pretty soon because it's going to become a gateway between worlds during the upcoming event. Adele also informs Alix that he will be tasked with making sure Ivy stays out of the pool.
dax #87: no guaranteesA montage episode from Dax's point of view details the characters' preparations for the upcoming flash event. Dax is a little confused that Adele designated Alix as Ivy's keeper and wonders why she regards him as less stable despite that he does not plan to go back to his world. Weaver is currently planning to stay but makes no promises if his feelings change in the moment, and Dax wonders about how Adele will be affected.
adele #163: it happenedThe change-storm begins with the pool taking on a shinier look. Adele attends the event, with Dax and Weaver attending her. For a long, tense while, it seems like nothing is happening, but then something shifts that Adele can sense, and before she can explain it to the others, an unexplained stream of glow bursts out of the water and into the sky.
dax #88: sister speciesDax is startled at the unexpected light coming out of the pool. It resolves into individuals that look like very large bugs to him, but he can't see details before they disperse into the forest. He worries they're dangerous, but Weaver just keeps asking Adele questions about them; she identifies them as faeries, from humanity's sister world, and says they sometimes come to the human world for holidays but during flash events, their travel is unregulated. Adele assures Dax that they aren't dangerous like some insects, and Dax feels a little insulted that Weaver found the potential danger funny. He asks them not to laugh at him for wanting to protect them.
ivy #221: names for daysIn the forest away from the pool, Ivy and Alix are looking at a children's book that teaches months and days of the week. Ivy doesn't understand the purpose of naming days, and Alix explains the significance, including birthdays. She is confused about why she doesn't know hers. Then mysterious figures fly over them and they're distracted by the sight--it's the faeries who have just come out of the pool and flown into the forest.
adele #164: the centerAdele answers a few questions about the dimensional travel and travelers before shushing her companions and trying to envision the structure of the interconnected worlds. She begins drawing a map of it and opens up to questions again. She realizes it's possible the direction of the shift may be inward toward the center of the universe instead of outward toward remote dimensions like Weaver and Dax's. And her own dimension is the hub, she realizes. She anticipates getting a glimpse of her homeworld even though she won't be going back there.
ivy #222: too fastIvy and Alix are curious about the flitting presences suddenly appearing in the forest, so Ivy offers to get one for them to examine using her powers. However, when she does so and finds it's a small lady with wings, she simultaneously realizes that she doesn't like holding her because she clearly wants to get away. Alix wants to show the creature to Adele, but the "prisoner" calls out to her fellows and they briefly attack Ivy, injuring her eye mildly. Ivy is annoyed, and agrees to go with Alix to have Adele look at her injury.
adele #165: invadedAdele explains more information about the different worlds and how they connect together, ending in a revelation that her own world was invaded by a neighboring species long ago. Connections with other worlds aren't necessarily a good thing, though the human world's connection with Fae has never resulted in attacks. At this point Alix brings Ivy out of the forest claiming she'd been attacked.
ivy #223: bullyAdele determines that Ivy's eye looks a little scratched up but that it's not a dangerous injury. Alix seems freaked out at the prospect that she was hurt, but Ivy doesn't appreciate his fearmongering, so they argue over it, with Ivy blaming herself and feeling like she caused her own attack because she was being a bully to a tiny woman. But then she abruptly realizes Alix wanted to protect her, and she defends him and takes him away to calm down.
adele #166: in this momentAdele senses that the pool is about to shift one way or the other, and finally amidst questions from Dax and Weaver, she explains that it is shifting inward--toward her central homeworld--instead of outward toward one of their remote worlds. Adele is hoping for a connection to a world one orbit away from hers because that would be groundbreaking, but then she is overwhelmed when the connection to her homeworld is attached to memories. She realizes many truths about what she once knew, and finally remembers Tabitha by name.
ivy #224: the mad thingIvy is in a rush to get herself and Alix away from the pool on Adele's orders, but Alix isn't happy with her. He lashes out demanding that she explain why she said she's going to take care of him and why she made his concerns look ridiculous, but she calms him down by saying she figured out he wants to protect her, and she thanks him. He can't believe she's this mature, but she's tired of being condescended to because she's a kid.
weaver #96: holding handsWeaver observes Adele crying and wishes he could feel such a connection with his homeland. He moves to comfort her and ends up initiating a group hug that Adele appreciates. Adele tells them about her teacher, explaining that she knows her teacher is there with her in spirit, but then the pool begins to change again.
