MJ AND KENNETH

In Issue #0563, Meri Lin takes baby Benjamin out to hang out in the park and meets MJ, parent of baby Kenneth. She's cautiously optimistic about their connection and arranges a playdate for their sons, and the two bond over both having mixed-race children and both experiencing some alienation in a white-centric society. Meri Lin finds out in Issue #0573 that MJ is nonbinary and therefore isn't comfortable with the term "mother" for herself. MJ uses she/her pronouns and is married to a man, and doesn't mind assuming her son is a boy until or unless he might say otherwise. MJ later introduces Meri Lin to her friend Priya, another woman of color who didn't find an easy home in their original white-centric parenting group, and the three become friends, with their kids enjoying playing together.

MJ has light brown skin and a short haircut, and tends to dress masculine of center. She is tall and wears glasses. Her son Kenneth is brown-skinned and curly-haired, and is only two days younger than Benjamin.
