The different script means they speak Chinese? And did the mom move back to China?

Yes and yes. I established the different script indicating that the characters are speaking Mandarin very early on, but it's been a while since you would have seen it. Meri Lin's parents spoke Mandarin using a different font and told Meri Lin they were moving back to China in issue #25 at her baby shower. I think the last time the different font was used for Mandarin was in issue #678.

No. There's been no indication anywhere that the comic stops at 1,000 issues.
