Kate is primarily featured in issue 99, but her first appearance was in issue 25 at the baby shower. According to Meri Lin, Kate is one of her closest friends who used to be a neighbor, and when Meri Lin had to turn secretive because of her home circumstances, Kate got suspicious. She pressured Meri Lin into meeting her and her friend Cindy for lunch because she thought the excuses were very strange. Their relationship seems to have suffered since.

Kate later came back into the picture to visit Meri Lin after her son was born and offered to babysit in issue #427.
