Alix is talking about his parents and seriously considering getting Ivy involved with them? his mom made him wear gloves and stuff.

Not sure where that interpretation came from. Alix is not suggesting his parents are involved in what they're doing, and Alix's parents didn't make him wear gloves. (How do you do that with webbed fingers, anyway?) Alix's parents weren't happy about his differences and wanted to make him more normal, but that's not one of the things they did.
